This is very interesting. You are assuming that Kennedy will not play and you may be right. My guess is that Nigel bought him believing that Bruno can only play a limited number of games at his age and perhaps using Bruno in midfield. I wonder whether Bruno would have been left back if Mattock had not left abruptly and McGivern been less than outstanding.

It would be surprising if Fryatt does not play. For all the talk about "clean slates" Paulo will know how good Matty was last season. Well though Howard can play I doubt if he can manage many consecutive ninety minutes and he may be an impact sub.

Perhaps I am doing Dany an injustice when I write that he does not seem suited to what we are told of Paulo's "possession football". This is sad because I enjoyed what little we saw of Dany's effort and bravery. Dany like Adams goes in without regard for getting hurt. I now turn very abruptly from bravery to Paul Gallagher.

Paul Gallagher has undoubted qualities and I have criticised him at length before. For now all I will say is that in most matches last season it was never difficult to distinguish between Paul Gallagher and possession football.

Let me clarify that the lineup isn't one that I would pick, but one I suspect Sousa might. For me, I accomodate Fryatt, and possibly Oakley at the expense of Howard and N'Guessan. I also think we really need a good right back. Neilson isn't up to it, and Adams isn't a natural.

Now, if we move Morrison out there, fine...but then we need to fill in at centre back. Vitor, I suppose.

EDIT: I also would try and find a place for Gallacher.

Good grief! Thank you for the reminder of those dark days!

Why?

If my memory is correct Nigel used Bruno in midfield and Mattock at leftback in our League One season. I remember being impressed by Bruno there.

Surely most people expected that Mattock would have a lot of games at left back before he made his abrupt and churlish exit. I certainly expected that a loanee from Manchester City would be more formidable than McGivern turned out to be.

In no way am I knocking Bruno's performance last season since I voted for him as player of the year despite competition from Hobbs and Morrison.

Heskey and DJ up front? That has given me an idea why doesn't mandy put his hand in his pocket and sign heskey back for us that would be a potent strike force at this level.....

Reminds me of my dream pairing that only lasted two or three games - Heskey and Collymore.

Maybe he's saying both are disruptive and temperamental.

In over forty years of watching Leicester I have seen many cases of total ineptitude from Malcolm Partridge onward. I never doubted that Partridge and his successors were trying to play well.

Stan Collymore's last game for Leicester came after his demand for a pay rise had been turned down. It was the only time I have genuinely believed that a player was deliberately playing badly. Peter Taylor branded his performance as "unacceptable" and for once he was right.

DJ is a young man who is desperate for first team football and knew he would not get it under Pearson. He made stupid comments as desperate people do. His performances for Leicester may have been underwhelming but I believe he was trying. DJ like Malcolm Partridge was far less talented than Collymore but did not deliberately cheat the paying fans.

None of the present squad could play as wonderfully as Stan did against Sunderland. However, we should not forget how desperate Leicester were to get rid of him.

Whatever his faults DJ does not deserve to be compared to Collymore.

Adam Virgo winner on 41. On telly as well.

We took my aunty from Australia to that match. It was the first football match she had been to since moving there nearly 35 years previously. Needless to say she didn't enjoy it and had no desire to ever see another football match.
