There was a story in the Mercury yesterday about the possibility of us acquiring the Gordon Banks statue that has had a strange few years at Stoke:

I think a couple of statue's would be a good move in preparation for our return to the big time. It would send out a message that we've actually got some history and had some serious players. It would also help to create some 'history' about our relatively new home. If we take delivery of the Banks one and create a Lineker one (perhaps, as we produced England's top goalscorer), I think this might be a nice sight around the entrance to the stadium.

More fitting than elephants anyway.

Bobby Charlton was a Leicester lad? Crikey, didn't know that.

We should definitely get a statue of Heskey.

Banks and Lineker are the most obvious ones you'd think.

Oops. I didn't word that right did I.

I maintain that Lineker is the best goal scoring striker England have had. 48 goals in 80 games is better than Charlton's 49 in 106.

Statues, I like that idea. As far as football grounds go, most are good and appropriate (Molineux, Elland Road, Pride Park, Old Trafford etc), but in recent years there have been hideous and inappropriate ones too. The ridiculous giant 'Headbutt' statue in Doha, immortalising an act of violence. The surreal tribute to a pederast outside Craven Cottage. And of course the elephants. It'd be nice for us to be on the former list rather than the latter.

I can't wait for the unveiling of the Junior Lewis statue.

It would be nice to get it. We should have one of Gary Lineker too. Maybe also Frank Worthington and someone more recent like Steve Walsh. Feck knows how much these things cost but it would be nice to have one done of Gary.

The Banks statue cost £85k in 2008 - there's a clue in the Mockery story linked in the OP.

When we're thinking about whom to honour in this way, would we not prefer to look for 'those of our own'? Of those already mentioned Lineker, Nish and Heskey would qualify; Banks, Worthington, Walsh and Junior Lewis would not. Anybody suggesting a statue of Kevin Phillips will be off my Christmas card list.

The Banks one cost 85 grand. This leads me to believe a John Curtis one might not be worth the money.

I didn't even know you had a Christmas card list. You didn't even say Merry Christmas when you saw me in my Santa outfit.

I agree that there would need to be a clear association with the club. Banks may not have started out at City, but he was hardly established when he arrived from Chesterfield and during his time with us, he established himself as the best keeper in the country and was part of the World Cup winning team. He also played more games for us than anyone else and was a City player for a lot longer than he was at Stoke.

Shilton would also qualify to an extent but he played most of his career elsewhere and was probably at his best at Florist, which taints him for me.

Lineker was born and bred Leicester and retains that association to this day. He's one of our best ever strikers and his record for England, who he first started playing for whilst at City, was excellent.

I don't see a case for anyone else to be honest. Banks and Lineker statues on the concourse area at the entrance to the stadium would be appropriate and very nice to see.

Liam Moore is one of our own.

Shilton played more games for Leicester than for any other club, and played more times for England when he was at Leicester than any other club.

I think he meant that he spent more time away from us than he did with us.

I know what he meant, but I think if he gets a statue anywhere it should be here, because he spent more time here than anywhere else. Lineker did the same, but BN thinks he should have a statue. I don't see the difference between the two. Both from Leicester, and both excelled for England.
