iIMO both Hughes and Williams have the ability to be two of the best midfielders in the division, but I tend to agree with Highland, they both appear to lack the work ethic and application to be effective box to box midfielders and both are guilty off spending too much time on the periphy of the action and not influencing the game enough.
The top midfielders in this division are players with ability but also the right attitude and application, for example both Hughesy and Williams were overshadowed last season by Joey, a player who is far less talented ability wise, but because of his hard work and commitment, a player who was a big influence on our season, whilst Hughes and Williams, IMO were missing for too much of the season.
If I were RK, I would have sacrified either one of Williams or Hughes and bought in another proven championship box to box midfielder. For whatever reasons both players have been enigmas, flashes of brilliance but then all too often followed by long passages of anonimity. If RK can unlock the door that gets both these players delivering on a more consistent level then we will have 2 fine midfielders, if not then it is IMO 2 wasted slots within the squad.
