IT.IS.A.STUPID.COMIC.THEN... ffs at least have some consistency. Either he can't stand the stuff or he can. Things like that spoil films for me.

but he has to put up with the pain like only superman can. he has to to save humanity, and he does so by almost dying himself.

Superman saved us all :038: :icon_wink

You are talking about consistency in a film about a man from space who can fly, throw laser beams from his eyes and wears his pants on the outside. I don't get what it is that people want from the film.

The consistency lies entirely in the world we're presented within the movie. He has these powers because he's from a different planet, that's the logic of it and we can accept that and fantasise about it. With regards to the pants, that's just an anomaly, and i'm prepared to put that aside for art's sake.

In one scene he's knocked to the ground by a mere mortal like Lex Luther, because the island they are on is composed of Kryptonite. After he recovers he then later lifts the hugh growing Kryptonite island from the bottom of the sea up into space, the fantasy then breaks up somewhat because by it's own rules that shouldn't happen.

I felt they made amends slightly by having him fall from the sky because he was so drained of his powers from the Kryptonite.

PLUS why couldn't he have landed somewhere like Bradgate Park instead of bloody Central Park (i assume) in New York

Thankyou Muzzy... you took the words right out of my mouth!!!

Spot on.

That all said, there were parts of the film that were absolutely amazing, so much so it gave me goose bumps. Lots of that had to do with the music and memories of it from when I was a kid granted.

me too, and there are very few films that can do that for me!

Yeah but my point is is that there are no rules to comic book movies. If there were then how come Superman can fly to, say, Buenes Aires to stop a Kwik-E-Mart robbery, then five minutes later be in Paris saving someone falling from the Eiffel Tower? This would suggest that being Superman is a 24 hour a day job, yet he still has time to try and get into Lois Lane's knickers by showing her the sights from the sky. And if he can see and hear everything, how come he missed Lex Luther robbing the Kryptonite? Superman is, in essence, a cartoon for kids made into a film and kids don't ask those questions and shouldn't because it is fantasy.

i'm with singth on this one. comic book movies are able to bend logic. i enjoyed it, end of.

only one thing that didn't cut it for me - Kate Bosworth, she is not good enough to play lois lane. certainly not a touch on the previous actress's.

We aren't kids so can ask those questions. I can accept it's fantasy and I can let stuff go because I know that's what it is... BUT there should still be certain rules and his kryptonite weakness is a pretty major rule.

If in xmen cyclops blows things up with his laser eyes for 99% of the film and can't take his glasses off because of it. If all of a sudden he took them off and read a book with no explanation you'd think wtf is all that about, I thought he couldn't see normally.

24 hour job?? He is free to do what he wants so people can accept him trying to have some kind of normal life. After all he was raised like a "normal kid".

He missed Lex robbing the Kryptonite because he was saving kitty from killing herself and other people in the car crash... that was the whole point of Lex cutting her brakes so that she'd distract him.

That's fine but you could then ask the question as to why he is called Superman at all if he can't save everything. Are we then supposed to think of what would happen if, at the same time, someone was about to be hit by a train and on the other side of the world, someone is about to get shot. What choices would Superman make? No, we are not supposed to think of logic, we are supposed to sit in our seats cheering that Superman has, yet again, saved the day.

He's superman as he is a super being, not because he can save everyone and everything. Obviously he cannot stop everything happening, so again you accept the choices he makes are the ones that are right.

Obviously the writers want you to think about the choices he makes otherwise they wouldn't have put in the kitty car distration scene.

If you can let things like it slip by without a second thought then fair play, I wish I was like that. Problem is i'm not so I pick out thing like that.

I understand that Superman is a comic book and the film tried to keep a similar kind of theme but if im not mistaken so did the Spiderman films and XMen! They however were a lot better then the Superman film! (IMO)

saw it today and i thought it was pretty decent-my explanation for the lifting of the rock and not fainting etc would be because he wasn't touching any of the kryptonite and only the outer rock whereas before he was (i duno im guessing really)
7/10 from dd

went to see it last night, very entertaining film i don't know what all the fuss is about. Thought the storyline stuck well to the rules of a comic and to the history of superman. the effects were brilliant and didn't once get bored while watching it.

did people really expect a realistic story line etc? from a comic? pah.

It's not about a realistic story Nathan, it's about sticking to rules set out. We accept he has laser vision, can fly, wears pants on the outside, comes from another plane because it's a comic/sci fi film. But he either is or isn't hurt by kryptonite... it was just something that left me scratching my head.

he was hurt by kryptonite.

hence him having to go up toward the sun and gain as much energy as he could for what he was about to do. and he still nearly died from it.

when he goes near kryptonite he isn't instantly powerless, it gradually builds up. thats why he didn't even realise what the thing was made of. also the other point, he might be more affected by krytonite when it's raw than when it's covered.

when he lifted the "island" you could tell it was hurting. but like a good sport he kept at it to save the world. and then fell however many thousand feet to the ground.

he unselfishly saved the world and you're not happy............................ :018:
