My understanding from SSN is that he has been released.

EDIT: He has been advised by the club that he can leave on a free transfer.

Heskey was asked by SGE a month ago if he wanted to come to the club. He said no, not for now, maybe next season.
 
My understanding is Barton will be allowed to leave the club on a free
