'takeover'.... Mandaric still owns 51%/takeover hasn't actually gone through? Mandaric still holding majority share was what was discussed before the announcement. Takeover not going through.... just a guess, but it seemed to happen quickly after we heard about (admittedly could've been done quietly), but due diligence etc...

I would have thought if it was major breaking news regarding the takeover falling through then I would suspect that Stringer would have made more of it. IMO it is probably more of an ivestigative piece regarding the new owners in particular their business dealings etc. Also wouldn't be surprised if it surrounds the identity of the 'mysterious partner'

If he'd got advance notice of a story from the Guardian he might not be allowed to talk about it until it's been published.

Journalists are often told what a story is in advance of it being published, on the understanding they keep quiet about it until it is published.

Most of course don't then act like they're some big shot with inside info, they keep quiet about it until they're allowed to say something.
