Sometimes, but not in this instance. I think our 'real' odds of going down should be around 4/1 so 14/1 is ridiculous and any rational person with some winnings from his bet on Iheanacho signing really ought to reinvest.

On a general point, betting against your own team makes far more sense intellectually than betting on them. You're effectively laying off your disappointment and we all know that disappointment is a big part of being a City fan. It could therefore be argued that it is the antithesis of being subversive.
The year before we got relegated to League One, we were 40/1 to go down, a fair way into the season and in the midst of a relegation fight. I couldn't believe how generous the odds were and stuck £20 on it, thinking that it would cushion the blow a bit, if we went down. We didn't, but we did the following season and I hadn't got any money on it, even though it was pretty clear we were in a mess. Dumbass.

Indeed, BN is in betting what Myra Hindley was in child care.

We are all aware of BN's success at football betting.

I do accept my limitations when it comes to betting on football. It is at best sketchy.

However, I've created a situation where I will happily lose this bet. I want us to stay up of course. I put £15 on Iheanacho signing and he did and I've reinvested the £30 on us going down at 14/1.

Losing £15 is we stay up is nothing. Winning £450 if we go down is a free season of football as compensation.

Where is the downside?

You didn't expect Iheanacho to sign then. Or you were disappointed he did?
