Bolton are in talks with Leicester City in a bid to sign striker Jermaine Beckford, the Mercury understands. The Trotters, who Leicester piped to a play-off spot, are looking to bolster their striking options for another promotion push next season and have opened negotiations with City for the 29-year-old, who has fallen completely out of the picture at City under manager Nigel Pearson.

Beckford made five appearances for City at the start of the campaign but has spent nearly the entire season on loan at Huddersfield Town, scoring nine goals. The former Leeds United and Everton striker has two years left to run on his contract and City want to sell to free up his wages for future squad strengthening.

They are resigned to losing the majority of the £2.5 million they spent on him when Sven-Goran Eriksson signed him nearly two years ago. However, they want to recoup some of their outlay. Beckford was signed just 40 minutes before the transfer window closed in August, 2011, and finished the season with 15 goals, including a hat-trick in the 4-0 home victory over Nottingham Forest. However, it was clear from the start of the season that Beckford did not feature in manager Nigel Pearson’s plans and his time at City is expected to end this summer.

F*cking yes, what a night. They love us don't they? Matt Mills, we knock them out of the play-offs and still they come back for more.

Would be gutted if he was to move, especially to the clubs mentioned there as there would be a very good chance he would be playing Championship football again the following season.

Hopefully lazy journo's trying to add 2 and 2 together as he wouldn't be massively going forward, if at all, with any of those.

I thought he was magnificent in both legs against Watford, he has certainly addressed the concerns regards certain areas of his game that had been clearly lacking. He looked industrious, hard working, influential and most importantly did a great job of breaking up Watford attacks would not surprise me to see him move on for a fresh challenge in the prem I could see him having a very successful career much akin to Tim Cahill. Will be a massive loss but you know what he deserves his chance, always been loyal and never given a hint of trouble even when he has had long spells out of the team. A credit it himself and our club.
