Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded spring/summer 2019 rumours thread.

Maguire has now played in what I would consider the “weaker team” in both friendlies so far, with Soyuncu partnering Evans in the stronger looking XI. Might not be significant, obviously, but probably worth noting.....

Nah, I wouldn't read too much into preseason lineups. One might say it's a kind of 'attack v defence' too, a stronger defensive unit with a weaker offensive one - just so the defense gets more of a workout. And vice versa in the 2nd half.

Who knows what the thinking behind it is?

I think it’s pretty obviously giving Soyuncu time in the preferred back four in the event we lose Maguire.

Entirely sensible approach and nothing to really glean from it that we don’t already know.

Maguire is available at the right price, and Leicester need to insulate themselves from risk and have an extended look at Soyuncu with Evans.

Judging from that half he needs a lot more time. He was turned inside out, back to front and pushed off the ball far too easily by a pretty poor set of attackers.

Soyuncu isn't doing much wrong only because he's not doing enough to get it wrong. He's seems to me to be concentrating simply on getting it right, so is playing it simple and risk free. I think it's cautious and confidence building foremost. It seems a sensible approach and I'm not going to critical of that.

Was our worst defender across both halves.

I agree. Just thought it was worth pointing out, that’s all. I also agree with MA, that it’s a sensible approach.

It would be a sensible approach were that the case but he isn't concentrating on getting it right. He was awful with the ball at his feet, he was slow to get to the loose ball, he was absolutely not risk free when he decided to try and hang on to the ball too long or dribble the ball out only to be dispossessed nearly every single time he attempted either. He may be brillant eventually and he certainly came fonus highly regarded by some so I'm not writing the guy off at all I just think out of the 8 or so defenders we saw today, he was by far the worst. I'm sure he will get better with time.

Soyunco would probably be more comfortable on the right side of the two cb's. Evans always used to play on the left at the other clubs he's played for I think. I don't think we should be trying to replace maguire with Soyunco but with Evans. Soyunco or benkovic should replace Wes.?

Soyuncu is almost completely two footed. He trained himself to play as well with his left and his passing is equally good both sides. He is a tremendously talented central defender. He has a very modern approach to defending and I think he fits the Rodgers approach perfectly.

There is definitely a mistake in him though. Just like Maguire in fact. It's the price you pay for this type of player.

Benkovic is much the same. He's an proactive, modern, defender. He is physically more imposing than Soyuncu though.

Both Benkovic and Soyuncu are exceptionally calm and comfortable in possession. Their passing is at least the equal of Maguire. They are both much quicker than Maguire.

Both need to be trusted and played regularly this season or it was a total waste of time signing them.

In both pre season games so far he trys to play on his right foot. He obviously favours it to his left. Not for one minute am I saying he can't use his left. He just favours his right. It's there for all to see.

Great sense once again.

I've not watched any pre season but if he's as much as a bumbling oaf as I've read were in for nearly 160m on central defender sales.

I was told by my colleagues in Germany that Soyuncu was definitely prone to the odd moment of madness, but his pace often spared him. That he was fun to watch.

I’m fine with him. Like him as a player.

What I saw of Soyuncu last season I felt positive about him, the errors he made could be attributed to match fitness and getting used to the pace of the game I think. I wouldn't have a problem with him being given a run in the side.
