Question. If it took selling Maddison for £70m for us to buy Daka, Soumare and Gosens what would people think?

I think it would still leave us woefully short of a creative attacking midfielder to supply the forwards and also lose us a good threat from set pieces.

I'm sure people will come back and say he doesn't create much, too slow etc, and his free kicks are shit but his stats says the complete opposite and he is right up there with other players in the same position elsewhere.

Honestly can't believe people would sell him, especially to another league rival.

If Maddison is fully fit, there's no question about starting him, just like Wilf and Youri.

We need to sell the crap that don't offer us anything like Perez rather than potential match winners.

I wasn't too fussed about selling Maguire and Mahrez to clubs of the calibre of the Manchester giants but would be if we sold Maddison to an also-ran outfit like Arsenal.

If we need some cash generated we've got plenty of squad options now:

Hamza
Ward
Ghezzal
Amartey
Perez
Mendy

Possibly Praet. Depending on where we are with Dewbury-Hall and Josh Knight, they could be options too.

Between that lot you could generate a good chunk of cash and should be able to avoid selling anyone off . unless they are adamant on leaving.

Maddison gets a lot of hate for some dodgy form. He's definitely becoming a bit of a scapegoat, which is a bit mad for one of our best players.

He's maybe not helped himself with being part of the COVID party crew, but others don't get the same for that. Even Perez gets away with that, despite being generally crap and the one to throw the party.

Maddison is a very good player. He's not had his best season, but the same can be said for Ricardo and even Vardy, but they're excused more with their injury concerns than Maddison is.

I really hope with a decent rest for Maddison, and the other players mentioned, and a good pre-season then they'll be back up to form in the new season and we'll be wondering why we ever questioned them.

When he got back to full fitness over the winter and before his injury setback in February(?) Maddison was playing some excellent matches, scoring or assisting in most.

Yep, he was. Never seemed to get back to that level towards the end of the season, so I’m hoping that the summer break does him good.

I'm still struggling to understand this nonsense about using Ward to generate some cash. Most clubs would give their soul to have a second keeper of his quality.

Madness I tells ya. The dead wood is obvious; Mendy, Praet, Choudhury, Amartey. We don't need and won't miss any of these.

I think putting Mendy and Praet under deadwood is harsh. Both have been decent, and are useful squad players.

Praet is another one who seems to have had a downward turn though. Second half of the season I didn't feel he offered anything and I wasn't sure what his role is meant to be. But has looked decent before. Mendy is useful backup to Ndidi.

I wouldn't call them deadwood, but wouldn't have issues with either leaving.

Perez should be on the deadwood list though.

Sell 4 of those 5, plus Ghezzal, and that should free up some of the funds were looking for.

We won't get far with trying to replace players like Ward as backup options.

Iversen should be the number two. He's four years younger than Ward, he's actually played more senior games than Ward, he's physically more imposing than Ward and he's a better shot stopper too. His ceiling as a keeper is much higher than Ward's. The only thing Ward is slightly better at right now is his passing.

Iversen proved himself at Preston last year. Just read some of the reports from his time there. He's also played more games in the last few months than Ward has in the last few seasons.

Iversen could be Schmeichel's replacement in a couple of years. There is no chance that Ward will ever be. We should absolutely cash in this summer and sell Ward if we can get someone to pay out.

Agree. Schmeichel, Iverson, Lad from Hartlepool - if we can get £15-20m for a post euro Ward to a promoted club that will help either buy someone needed or pay tielemans and gosens silly money

I’m quite happy with Ward as a backup, however your final sentence is important. His value is unlikely to ever get as high as it will be after this tournament and we have to consider that if we get an approach for him.

I’m not saying we should sell, just that we should think about it.

I'm not sure where these crazy valuations come from. We would do well to get £5 million for Ward.

Iverson is highly regarded at the club and is seen as a potential eventual replacement for Kasper but he will develop better getting regular football on Loan, so keep Ward as back up for now.

don’t be ****ing daft. We paid 12M for him and his reputation has grown since.

At a minimum Ward is 15M

Agree. You wouldnt buy a house for £200k, do it up add inflation then sell it for £100k.....

£5m for a keeper that’s performed very well on the international stage? What are you huffing?

Just because we paid far too much for him (and I’m not even knocking him there) doesn’t mean another team will.

Of course he didn’t offer anything. But there’s no way he could have as he went from being injured to the role of permanently unused substitute.
