Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded summer 2022 rumours thread

Is Youri on a 'big' salary here or does it not really matter in the overall situation?

Guess we could pay him absolute wedge and he might convince someone better than ****ing Arsenal to buy him for a reduced fee next summer.

Ooh, fight fight fight.

I'm inclined to back Percy. A contract extension would surprise me though, but would be brilliant news!
Having him piss about for another season like he did this last one, only for us to be in this exact same position next summer. No, that would not be brilliant news.

A rose-tinted spectacle view is that if Arsenal is the best he can do, and they have already strengthened their midfield, he realises he might not even be a first team regular. In which case signing a one year extension with us makes sense and might be his best chance for Champion's league football the following year. If he can refind his form in a full-strength Leicester team, it may not be beyond them (having come close two years in a row), and if they fall short, but he plays well, his stock may have risen again sufficiently for the big boys to be interested next Summer.

If he signs a contract extension, it's because he realises there's no better offer right now and he's smart enough to know the only way to change that is to have a good season.

He doesn't need to sign a new contract to do that.
He can have a good season, and sign for another club next summer for free - so he'd have a bigger choice of clubs and be able to get a better signing on fee and wages.

I think the only way he'd sign a new contract is if it's on significantly more money than he's on now, and has a release clause so he can leave next summer for a fee that's not too high.

My point was more that I don’t think it will be better for Leicester in any way if he is still our player by the end of this transfer window. I realize he doesn’t have to sign a new contract for that to be the case.

If Mane costs 35 million quid, I can't see Tielemans going for more than that. Seems prices are dropping generally. About the only price that is, globally. 35 million quid for Mane seems really cheap.

He’s 30 and will cost them a fair whack in wages, that helps keep his transfer fee down.
