I think Cooper tactics left him completely exposed. He asked him to do more than he was capable of, confused what his role was. Combined with a being part of a back four that is just generally poor it means his form has dropped, his confidence is gone and now being targeted by opposition.

If we’re being honest, he wasn’t great last season either, and only came into the team in the first place due to Doyle’s injury.

As I've said elsewhere, he has spent about six months being very good. The rest of his career he's been pretty much at the level he is now.

When he was in a good team and spent most of his time attacking, it suited him.

But that's nonsense. He was an exceptional LB for us for a while and then he was switched to the right where he also had success. He joined us very highly rated and it was easy to see why. He was called up to two England squads and was defensively solid.

Then he got injured.

He has never been the same player since. Yes, he's had the odd decent game but nothing like we saw before.

I don't think it's physical, it seems psychological to me but he's simply not in the right place to be anywhere near the starting 11. He's certainly not been helped by Cooper throwing him under truck after truck by asking him to do two jobs which an impossibility. Poor bastard just looked broken after a few games of that bollocks.

He returned from injury in Jan 2022 and has been largely shite ever since.
