The hysterically annoying and totally unfounded, but traditional, January 2025 rumours thread.

You're being very selective there.

He signed for Brighton five years ago on Friday.

In those five years, he's started 52 out of 190 PL games.
And many of the games he hasn't started are not necessarily to do with injury but selection. The numbers I posted are valid. He has played in more games over the same period than Justin.

52 starts vs. 95 games missed due to injury.

I guess if we have enough injury prone right backs, we might find one is fit now and then. It's an unusual approach but I wouldn't put it past us.

Like I say, he's no worse in terms of games played than we have and if he's cheap enough he'd be a great addition. There are loads of examples of players that have gone through a couple of seasons of injury (although he played 20 games last season and 33 the season before) and come out of it fit and healthy. It's all in the cost, this one.

Unfortunately, he'll go somewhere decent.

He might be a record holder. He's missed 1,088 days due to injury in his career, which includes two ACLs.
That's my point though. He joined Villa on the back of a horrific injury record, having been written off and then in his first four seasons played in 33, 36, 35, and 35 games. They took a punt on him and it was an absolute success in terms of value for money. During that time he became an England centre back as well.

This argument is why players have medicals. The issue is that our medical department appears to have declined sharply over the last 5+ years

Well Lamptey might be the shining light at need, although I think he's a bit dim.

This post, almost 24 hours after the last post in the rumours thread, underlines how much of a problem we have.

Here we are, 72 hours before the end of the transfer window, and NADA.

We have signed one completely unknown player when we desperately need more signings and not even a rumour in sight.

The window SLAMS SHUT on Monday night.
