I see your point, but if new posters get abuse it usually for a good reason IMO

Text speak
Starting needless threads on subjects which already have a thread.

Both easily avoided. A Forum isn't a blog where people can post what they like, it is a community. As with any community there are standards that are set. and repect needs to be shown to other members. If a new member does either of the above, i think that is disrespectful to other members.

People should also be prepared to back up their comments with a reasonable argument. Saying "he used to play for us" as a reason someone should be manager for example is going to attract some flak.

I want to bring up a point for discussion...

On this website (which is aimed at LCFC supporters i assume) of all ages, race, intelligence and location, why does there (seem) to be an ''inner circle'' of members (usually with high numbers of posts) who continually riducule EVERYONE who is not a member of this invisible privvy circle?

I for one (and i know i am not alone) entered this site to have discussions/different views shared on our great, but at present ailing club. What actually happens is that ''junior'' members are either ridiculed (in a way that is not banter) ignored, abused (some times racially) or made to feel distinctly unwelcome?

There are dozens (if not hundreds) of examples of this across many threads across this site. If we are to become a great club, then we should embrace all supporthers regardless of who thwy are and what their views are.

I for one (and again i am not alone) find posting on this site a bit pointless as, a ''junior'' (if you can call someone 40 years old, junior), member due to reasons above.

I would like to know why (some of) the ''senior inner circle'' members feel the need to do this? If it is to discourage ''junior'' members from posting on this site...well you have been successful. If it is to attract a more diverse opinion...well, this is failing.

Very soon this site could be full of posts from senior members, with no imput from outside. If this is the aim, continue as you are, and i am sure your wish will be granted.

I, for one will not be posting on here again.

Apart from the racial bit, I can understand anybody feeling the way that you do. I don't think anything is ever done intentionally to discourage new members from posting, but I do believe that this is the effect that it has.

People will say that TB is the way that it is because that is the way that the majority want it. That of course ignores the views of the great many people who never post because they feel intimidated. You will be told that it is banter - but as far as I am concerned banter is something that goes on between consenting adults, otherwise it can seem a bit like bullying.

The question of what to do about it is a different matter. As you can already see from the replies in the thread, most people deny that there is a problem at all - but that is only because it's not a problem for them.

I have got to say that in some ways, I agree with spion - give as good as you get - it's one way - but not everybody's way. The other way is just to keep posting and to ignore the less constructive replies - in that way you will get your view across. Do you really mind if nobody agrees with you? Well yes, you probably do - but I would think that it is pretty easy to ignore the responses of those whose only aim in life seems to be to criticise other's opinions.

Keep posting.

I have been a member for a couple of years but didn't start posting until fairly recently.

I experienced the sort of things you mention, but, you know what? I gave back as good as I got, joined in with the banter and now, well, if I am not loved at least I am tolerated on here :icon_wink

This forum is a bit like society in general - there are all sorts here, good, bad (ugly) and indifferent but it is really up to you to fit in and adapt. You can't expect everyone else to adapt themselves to you.

If you don't like what you read then either ignore it or, better still, post a counter argument.

FWIW I think the mix of fun / frivolity / piss taking and serious discussion on here is about right.

Like life, it's what you make it.

Superb post :038:

**** off bauldy :)

I think ye're all ****s, new & old posters.
But that's why I keep coming back everyday

If you're the type of person that would start a thread based on 'there's some nasty people on the internet, why won't they play nicely so we can all be buddies?' I think it's probably time to go back to using your PC for minesweeper & solitaire.

spionfox has it nailed down

........even if he is a ****.

The point is these forums also serve the 'silent majority'. Currently there are about 20 members and 80 guests viewing. From previous checks I believe that to be a typical ratio.

Occasionally a 'guest' converts to a member because they watched for a while and now feel confident enough to join in. I suspect the majority of guests view TB for our (occasionally) accurate inside info on the club and may occasionally chuckle at the banter.

My only concern as one of the May 2003 founder members is that there are not enough active Mods for the Leicester City thread so when the likes of Homer, Highland and MK Fox, go seriously off topic, or just 'go off on one', the thread is not split and tossed into The Pub, as this one now has.

Equally I think those most active 'senior members' or 'inner circle' also have a duty of respect to those viewing their antics so that TB as a whole is seen as a vibrant, embracing, knowledgeable community, otherwise we will just turn into a Jeremy Clarkson or Grumpy Old Men parody of FoxesTalk!

I agree, I find that there are a few on here who will say the sky isn't blue just to have an argument, people who will completely ridicule you for giving your opinion and who will offer no reasonable response as to why they feel your opinion is wrong - your are simply labeled a 'Blue Mongie'

Plenty of threads descend into inside joke too.

was waiting for you to pipe up on this

The internet exists as a medium to virtually point at stupid people and laugh at them.

There's a warning sign just to the left when you enter the internet, it says "Watch out stupid people!"

If stupid people decide to ignore that sign then they deserve every bit of public humiliation coming to them.

if they arent related to Leicester City, they get moved to the most relevant area, theres no smoke and mirrors here.

Please explain how a thread about LCFC fans is not related to LCFC, seeing as we are the ones who keep the club going with our cash?
