Whatever happened to the good old cos lettuce?:102:

Indeed, a fine lettuce if there ever was one. A Caesar salad just isn't the same without the cos lettuce. You can keep your limp-wristed raddicchio or your over-rated rocket, give me the humble cos anytime. :icon_roll

TB is like a mini-society. It works like normal life.

Where ever I have been there has always been a dose of cynicism and 'picking on' of new people at work, school or even at home (new relatives for example).

I'm really ever so sorry, and I'll never ever do it again

Not sure what all the fuss is about, im not the kind of guy who is interested in penetrating inner circles, but this is the new milenium, man love these days is not just tolerated but seemingly activly encouraged. :058:

Yeah, new born babies are such bastards aren't they.

Apart from the racial bit, I can understand anybody feeling the way that you do. I don't think anything is ever done intentionally to discourage new members from posting, but I do believe that this is the effect that it has.

People will say that TB is the way that it is because that is the way that the majority want it. That of course ignores the views of the great many people who never post because they feel intimidated. You will be told that it is banter - but as far as I am concerned banter is something that goes on between consenting adults, otherwise it can seem a bit like bullying.

The question of what to do about it is a different matter. As you can already see from the replies in the thread, most people deny that there is a problem at all - but that is only because it's not a problem for them.

I have got to say that in some ways, I agree with spion - give as good as you get - it's one way - but not everybody's way. The other way is just to keep posting and to ignore the less constructive replies - in that way you will get your view across. Do you really mind if nobody agrees with you? Well yes, you probably do - but I would think that it is pretty easy to ignore the responses of those whose only aim in life seems to be to criticise other's opinions.

Keep posting.

like it boc

Personally I don't tend to abuse new members as I don't yet know their weak points, in fact I barely talk to them at all, unless of course it's a numptie who thinks he's on MSN.[/QUOTE]

I don't know about the rest of the new posters but this statement has me a little apprehensive.

By the way my weak points are many and varied, including over-use of ellipses (thanks Macky), lousy memory, posting way too much for my own good and worst of all I living in Australia (hence not having my finger on the pulse of football in the UK). :icon_conf

It's that time of year again when somebody raises the myth that is the "inner circle", I have been around a long time on TB and seen many posters join (was going to use the word come, but did not want to be labled a puff, peeping tom or told whatever floats yer boat) and then go. The longer you hang around the more idea you will get about people, much like any new situation like school, work or the closest a new pub. Would you walk into a pub and barge your way into a group of mates and try to join in with the conversation then be surprised to be told to f*ck off?
I can see your point, but this is a forum not a courtroom. Hang around and see which posters you know will give you the conversation you want.

As one former poster used to say "Chill yer beans".

My mate Trevor wanted to join but was put off at the thought of all the abuse he might get !!

i do think some posters are quick to have a go at others and think that its a laugh and a joke but not everyone thinks its funny and not everyone is bullet proof but its different when the tables are turned and someone makes a joke about them they soon get arsey about it...isnt that hypocritical and a case of giving it and not taking it :102:

try being a woman on this forum, then you get abuse :icon_lol:

When I started posting here it was with a different name that didn't make it obvious that I was female. I got a few replies, generally friendly I have to admit. However the minute someone referred to me as "he" and I corrected them the attitude certainly changed :icon_roll

I get the feeling most (if not all) of the women on here can handle it.
