I've been critical of Maddison during his time here but he's been outstanding now for almost a year. He's seemingly finally matured as a player and got the consistency that was lacking previously.

To be honest, he's carried the side more often than not. It's why it's bizarre when supposed good managers such as Cooper utterly fail to take him seriously.

Don't be too hard on Cooper. He's only following the example of the England manager who himself is surely not a power to argue with.

I've said for a while, Maddison is our star player now and is the one we should be setting up to get the best out of.

For me that means he should play in the middle. But to be fair to him and Rodgers, he's been playing brilliantly recently and a lot of that is when he's technically playing on the right.

Those stats do surprise me though - hadn't realised he was at Mahrez levels of goals and assists. Let's keep that quiet though...

Players like Maddison make football worth watching.
Agree -he is entertaining because he is skilful and looks to get the side moving forward. As BN said, his performances have become more consistent over the last year, showing just how valuable he now is to the side. Let’s hope we can keep him at City a while longer.

Good thread as I was thinking the other day he should be up there with our greatest players, certainly of recent times.

I thought we overpaid for him at the time but from his first performance away at Man Utd, you could see he had something about him and had the potential to be a special player.

I'd only have prime Vardy ahead of him now.

It is now.

No sooner said than done!
Thanks Boc, I did actually search for this thread and was surprised there wasn't one! Surprises all round!

A well deserved thread.

I'd say his overall impact on the team is probably greater than Mahrez offered. Mahrez would often go missing then pop up with a moment of brilliance. Madison gets involved a lot more.

Rodgers or whoever the next manager is, should tell Maddison - stay and we'll build a team around you!

Interesting quote from Rodgers today about Maddison.

“It’s only natural you want your absolute best players to be here, and we keep saying that, but we keep losing them".

It's wilful denial of obvious facts that he understands and signed up to.

It's also incredibly stupid to undermine the limited amount of goodwill following Monday by whining about the same issue again.
You've clearly made up your mind. I don't see it as whining. More a reluctant acceptance of and his frustration with the way that transfers away can be forced.

Perhaps…

if he had not wasted over £200m on second rate ‘fillers’

if we had finished 4th instead of 5th and had CL football two seasons running

if BR was actually a tactical mastermind

if we had a better medical team and less injuries to of key players

if Covid had never happened and KP continued to make good profits from tourism

if our defenders could keep their heads whilst all about were losing theirs and blaming it on the coaching staff,

Then our finances would be a lot stronger, the team’s ranking would be higher – and we could keep James Maddison - and others might also be more than happy to stay

Perhaps – Perhaps - Perhaps
