One of the things I love about Vardy is his complete disregard for most of the wanky bollocks that modern athletes are obsessed with.

Yes, he does have a cryogenic recovery pod in his home that he swears by.

But he has never used the gym. Never trains very hard. Loves his Skittles, Red Bull and Vodka.

He clearly knows his body and has maximised it putting many data and conditioning tossers in the bin.
He is also a 'late starter,' Many top players are burnt out by 30 or so by teh sheer numbers of games played at the top level. Vardy has been with us about 11 years and this is his first 'proper' top test so he has energy in the bank.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire at 40. He has modified his game and is an exceptionally smart footballer. Anyone who sees him as just a goal machine is missing 50% of his contribution.

Not sure about the 'late starter' explanation - but agree (and hope) he could still play a role up to his 40th - even longer if his biological Dad was Stanley Matthews

I mean that he didn't play at the top level until 11 or so years ago, so he has player 11 years at the top.

Take Beckham (perhaps an extreme one), he started playing for Man U @ about 17 so more difficult to maintain this for 20+ years.

Do you remember when we used to say it was sad because he wouldn't quite reach 200 goals for us? Now he's just four off that target.

question is - assuming he gets a statue (which he should)… what pose?

The volley against Liverpool?
Or using a corner flag as an air guitar?

It'll be the one against Newcastle.

Although personally I would prefer this one:

I hope when Vardy gets his 200th goal there are similar celebrations to when Buddy Franklin kicked his 1000th goal in AFL. That's a very rare feat, and the celebrations were understandable. Check it out if you want...

I was in Australia at the time and remember watching it live. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

I'd go for him telling Romero to **** off as he came off against Spurs. Or doing the " you've won **** all " hand signal at their fans in the same game.

But that's just me.

It does sum him up though. One of the unique things about him is that he comes across as a fan who's somehow managed to sneak onto the team bus & get a game without anyone noticing & then turns out to be brilliant. Like something out of a 1970s football comic strip.

It's a bit silly that everyone's filming it with their phones when it's going to be on YouTube and TV anyway.

Or two footing the flag against Sheffield United?
