the f.a.cup did it for you.
I remember going to filbo on f.a.cup day in my youth and always enjoyed the extra spice and atmosphere that went with it.
When we rolled over a "bigger" club it seemed like the place was rocking.
Then the buzz of finding out who you got in the next round.
Sadly the fat cats have seriously damaged this great competition with their nose in the air attitude and the 2nd string sides they put out.
Exeter's result against Man U was superb but i wonder if later in life their players would sooner tell the grandkids how they put up a real fight in a 2-0 defeat against Keane, Rooney ,Ferdinand and the real Man U.
IMO why can't the f.a and the league get together and make teams put out a starting 11 that is within 3 players of a team that the club used for any league fixture during the current season. That way they would have to play a decent side. Fans from small clubs get few chances to see the big boys , so when they draw the plum they shouldn't have to pay prem prices to see the reserves.
Its a great competition that should be preserved.
In recent years the win at villa park and the defeat and utter despair of losing to Wycombe is what makes it great.Long may it continue.
Would like to hear your thoughts on the f.a.cup

The last time I really enjoyed a cup match was earlier in the season, but I was supporting Hinckley Utd at Brentford.

Good goal tonight, but I'm not really sure if it was worth standing in the cold for two hours for.

thankfully it didn't rain that much.

only in the last 15 minutes it really started to lash it down, i could see the gits concede a goal to keep us out in it for another 1/2 hour at least........good job Jordan knew what he was doing!!

The last time I enjoyed the FA Cup was when we drew 2-2 with Chelsea at home. That was great but so disappointing when that ginger wanker cheated us out of it. Barstool.

Well I can tell you the FA Cup Final that I have enjoyed the most. It was 1994, Man United 4 Chelsea 0. Cantona bagged 2 penalties, and I think it was Hughes and McClair that scored the others. I know the score line sounds harsh but it was 0-0 at half time. This was at the time when Chelsea had "greats" such as Dmitri Kharine, Jacob Kjeldberg, Erland Johnsen, Mark Stein, Paul Furlong, John Spencer and Gavin Peacock. United had greats such as Giggs, Hughes, Kanchelskis, Cantona, Ince and Schmeichel. It was one of the best matches I have ever seen, non-stop action all 90 minutes.

I agree with Joe, one of my most memorable City cup games in recent years was the 2-2 with Chelsea.

When we got to the Semis, played Spurs at Villa Park and lost 1-0 Ian Wilson own goal I think.Tommy Williams broke his leg that match but from what I can remember we put up a good show against a Spurs side with Hoddle,Ardilles,Villa etc.I was only a young lad and Yeah I cried when we got beat mind you I still do!!.That was the same season we beat Shrewsbury 5-2 in the Quarters with 3 different Keepers.Other than that The FA Cup hasn't really bothered me,not a thing we do well in but this year who knows......

don't really have good memories of the FA cup as we haven't done well in it, our best chance was when we wycombe in the quaters and there internet striker scored the winner. but still love the cup and would swap winning the cup to getting promoted.

I was at Villa park against Spurs (0-2) and the atmosphere was great but as you say the 5-2 win against Shrewsbury was fantastic - happy days

Fa cup Run 73/74
Spurs H 1-0 (Earle)
Fulham A 1-1 (Sammels)
Fulham H 2-1 (Worthington, Weller)
Luton A 4-0 (Weller (2) ? ?)
QPR A 2-0 (Waters (2))
Liverpool (Old Trafford) 0-0
Liverpool (Villa park) 1-3 (Glover)

Fantastic run. Went to them all. QPR was by far the best. The scousers went on to beat Newcastle 3-0. Happy days.
Also went to:
Walsall A 0-1
Leatherhead A 3-2 (At filbo 2-0 down after 60 minutes!)
Harlow 1-1, 0-1 Or was it Marlow?
Wycombe.

It's a terrific competition. Can you imagine the fun we could all have if Exeter win tonight. Come On You... what colours do they play in?

you can get 33-1 on them winning...

In the opening to this thread i moaned about big clubs fielding weak teams and devaluing the cup. I suggested an idea on how to stop this . Would like your opinions though .
Do you think the foreign managers at our top clubs don't realy understand what the cup means to fans in this country. In Italy Spain France and Germany the cup is little more than a distraction.IMO its one of our great traditions in this country.
I bet the Liverpool fans were not impressed with Benitez's team selection last night. I don't think they gave enough respect to Burnley. All in all i would like somebody to act before the cup dies a death.

don't forget that fergy didn't even enter his team a few seasons ago. 30 pieces of silver were on offer elsewhere..

You saying Fergies got a big un? I remember him describing one of 'senior' players as 'magnificent' in the trouser department but never himself! Maybe we could contact Adam Crozier on the matter?
