Brian Close - OWZAT!!

I think he was one of mine last year.

Former goalkeeper Ron Springett, a member of the England 1966 World Cup winning squad, has passed away aged 80 following a short illness

Probably the best Manager they've ever had ( or ever likely to have)

Some people in life are ****s, Kendall wasn't. That was a pretty wanky comment.

Not really. I was responding to the suggestion that he died prematurely "he was only 69". His lifestyle probably reduced his life expectancy by at least a decade. Therefore, his death really wasn't premature.

I never saw him play but I used to love Kendall when he managed Everton in the 80's. Cracking team, brilliantly managed. But I have also heard the other stories such as his spell as Notts County boss where was an embarrassment of a man. Kendall was finished before he was 50. Leicester had him on a shortlist for manager at one point - before they did their research and wisely steered clear.

It's a shame that an outstanding start in life largely finished skint and sad. But it's a familiar story in football.

Pat Eddery. Apparently he was good at riding horses.
