Nobby Styles, after a long illness.
RIP

Sean Connery.

The general public remember four members of the World Cup winning side - Bobby Charlton who was the best player Bobby Moore who was perhaps the bst defender in the world. Geoff Hurst who scored a hattrick and Nobby Stiles. Why Bobby Stiles when more talented players like Cohen and Wilson are forgotten. The answer is that the camera loved his toothless grin

Of course Nobby Stiles was a very good player- you had to be to get in the England team (not squad). However, he was not the best defensive winghalf of his generation. It seemed obvious that the brilliant young winghalf Eddie Colman was a future star for Man U and England. Colman tragically became the youngest player to die ay Munich Even then Nobby was not the best. His chance came when England winghalf Tony Kay was convicted of bribery

By the time of the 1970 world cup Nobby had been dropped in favour of the more talented Alan Mullery. I suppose Nobby Stiles could console himself with the thought - Mukkery may have been the best player but it was Nobby who had a world cup winners medal

John Sessions :(

Covid gets Peter Sutcliffe
Hardly a candidate for an RIP thread imho - but at least relatives and friends of his victims might be afforded some closure and comfort.

Des O’Connor is a gonner.

He’s a bit before my time, I’m aware of him and his catchphrase and the charming company he kept but what made him such a ****?
