The Sequel: Worst Moment

For us of an older ilk, Harlow throws up bad memories.

The first half against Leatherhead was not too bright either!
As I live in Harlow you can imagine I have that game thrown at me virtually every week. There was some debate as to whether the ball had crossed the line. Our offices were next to the local rag at the time, so I had strewn on my desk a frame-by-frame lowdown on the ball crossing the line.

The first game at Filbert Street brings back memeories. A friend ( who I didn't know then ) was arrested in the Harlow enclosure for throwing a burger at the Leicester fans. It missed the fans but caught a copper. He spent the night in the cells, along with a few others who didn't make it back to Harlow that night ( mostly West Ham & Spurs fans up for some trouble ).

I think all of my worst moments have already been mentioned. I was at Blackburn & Swindon games but cannot really remember the games as I was only about 7 or 8, just remember crying all the way home on the train!

Tottenham was a lot worse for me as I was much older then, probably about 15 or so but that still didn't stop me crying and storming out the stadium as soon as Neilsen hit the back of the net for them.

Stoke was also a bad one, I even had a look back at the reactions from the time and it was definitely our lowest point. I couldn't get a ticket for that game but watched it in the Loaded Dog and then proceeded to drink and smoke myself silly on Vicky Park so wasn't so bad afterall!

The Preston defeat at home was also a very sad day, it was't relegation or anything but when your own keeper conceeds because he can't jump more than 6" off the ground from an opposition goal kick, you know bad times are to come!

Final one from me though would be the Rotherham home game on either Boxing Day or News Years Day. I believe they were bottom, possibly without a win all season and low and behold, they beat us 1-0. That wasn't the worst part for me as I decided to make a 300+ mile round trip to get to the game as I was away for Christmas which was bad but that was the first game that made me realise how bad our fans could be.

It was constant booing and moaning & groaning from the ground after we went 1 down and so much so, that I actually got up and turned round and had a go saying something along the lines of 'why pay all this money to moan, get behind the team' albeit with one or swear words in there and probably some slurring as I had had a few!

It was met with silence for a short while followed by some brief applause and it did shut the moaners up for about 5 minutes, but that game was the real turning point for me about going as there wasn't one element that gave any satisfaction. The last year at Filbert Street was one of my favourites as even though we were gash from the start, the fans never gave up and got behind the team creating a great atmosphere in the kop which still made it worth going even though we were more than likely to get dicked on.

Bring back Filbert Street! :(

The realisation at about 40 mins that despite us being 3 up at Molineux, Wolves who still hadn't scored were actually going to beat us :(

The pie at half time was pretty rank too :)

Crikey, I'd forgotten about that one. Chris Kelly the Leatherhead Lip and two down at half-time.

Losing to Liverpool in a semi-final replay at Villa Park. Peter Shilton wore an all white kit and Keegan scored. The crush leaving the ground at the end was a bit frightening.

I agree. Shilton had seemed quite simply unbeatable in the first match. Losing that was hard although to be fair Liverpool were the better team.

I was at the Wycombe game too. It was dire, but I had no idea just how bad things were about to get.

The Bolton 5-0 defeat must have been absolutely awful to watch. Nothing like knowing you are doomed on the very first day of the season.

This was probably my worst. It was clear that Taylor's big spending in the close season had not worked. If only the board had shown the courage to sack Taylor after the first game we might have survived.

The Bolton game, however, was altogether different. To know at half time in your first game of the season that you were relegation fodder, after being a solid and strong Premier League team before that, was so shocking and depressing. As with Sousa in his first game at Palace, if I was the owner, I'd have marched The appointment of Peter Taylor was another deeply distressing moment.
It was between him and Joe Kinnear The distress as Taylor was unveiled was more for the fact that he seemed to be universally welcomed.

You were right and I was one of those who was wrong. His reputation was so high that he had a game as acting England boss and was widely spoken of as a future England manager. The other possible appointment was David Moyes but he was regarded as too inexperienced.

Then I would say the play-off 2nd leg in Cardiff.
Gutted.

Yes. It was not that Yann missed a penalty - so did Waghorn. It was the contemptuous way he took it.

Booked half a day off to watch us under Sousa lose 6-1 at sodding Portsmouth. When Michael Brown the cheating dirty twat waltzed through through our back four that game, I wanted the world to eat me up.
.

I had reached the point where I was almost relieved because I knew it would be the end of Sousa.
We could hardly complain about dirty players. The young Portuguese player whose name I have forgotten brought down a Cardiff player in a good position with a cynical tackle worthy of the WWE. It is the only time I have been pleased to see a Leicester player sent off and the goal from the free kick was justice done.

Two low points for me were realising that Leicester wanted to get rid of Nigel Pearson. The club waited until the close season which meant fans could not show their preference between Nigel Pearson and Lee Hoos.
Then hearing some of Paulo Sousa's post match comments which showed he had no understanding of the game I had just watched.

My all time worst football moment happened before I came to Leicester. It was the Manchester United plane crash that destroyed the Busby Babes. Great is a much misused word but so many genuinely great players died from what was then most people's second favourite team.

Sorry to exhume this thread it should be laid to rest, but found this documentary I'd never seen before. Quite topical with all that's changed in football.

The 5-0 home loss to Bolton.

Being 3-1 up at Newcastle, only for Alan F&%*ing Shearer to score a hat-trick and win it for them.

The Swindon play-off defeat.

The Spurs Carling cup defeat.

The day O'Neill left.

When did we lose to Spurs in the Carling Cup? I must have missed it.
