I find it hard to believe McNulty is actually English.

Is he the white cop who has a bit of a 'personality clash' with the lieutenant in series 1?

If so, why is that hard to believe? I sussed he wasn't a Yank in the first episode, his accent is crap.

If I'm talking about a completely different character, I apologise I've only seen the first 5 episodes and names haven't really stuck yet, and whoever that white guy is, his accent is still crap and I refuse to believe he is a Yank, even if I'm wrong.

On reflection after watching a couple more episodes, I've decided it isn't that his accent is 'crap', it's just obvious that he's putting it on.
He slips up and uses different vowel sounds every so often.
