Leicester captain Martin Johnson has warned Wasps will be out to avenge Sunday's close Heineken Cup defeat.

The Tigers face Wasps in the return match at Welford Road next Sunday as they seek to leapfrog over the defending champions in Pool One.

"Just because we've earned victory in this one guarantees nothing next Sunday," said Johnson.

"We must remember Wasps are the English and European champions and there is an enormous amount of work to do."

Johnson added: "I remember us going to France and winning at Toulouse but they beat us over here.

"Groups like this are not separated by much."

Leicester coach John Wells also believed lessons can be learned from last season's Heineken Cup campaign.

Tigers, cup winners in 2000 and 2002, will be favourites to top Pool One if they complete the double over Wasps, leaving the London side to battle it out with Biarritz.

We'll come out with a point to prove next week

"Celtic Warriors went to Wasps and won last season, then went back to their home patch and lost," said Wells.

"Wasps will not give up, and they will fancy the challenge of going away from home to get a result in exactly the same way we relished the challenge of going to Wasps."

Wasps skipper Lawrence Dallaglio, in the thick of the action on home soil, has already vowed to make amends at Leicester.

"We'll come out with a point to prove next week," said Dallaglio.

"They won't have it easy."

Wasps director of rugby Warren Gatland intends to work on the scrum in training.

But he knows that no matter what finetuning he does, he must prepare his side for another tough battle against Leicester.

"It was a game that was Test match level," Gatland said. "For a pool game you couldn't get anything as intense as that.

"They blew us away in the first 20 minutes but we were brave and fought back.

"Next week will be another huge battle and I can guarantee you, we will not give up our crown easily."
