I'd love to be a pilot. It never occured to me when I was still a wee lass though.

When and for whom?

Well I started to get involved when I was 16 in terms of asking newspaper's work experience during summer holidays with newspapers. Basically I wrote off to every single one in Leicestershire sent an already stamped envelope with them and just hoped for the best. Leicester Mercury are aware of me, they even dated when I sent in 3 letters previously last time I got a letter back.

I got a break at Hinckley Times and I failed to use to my advantage. The same applied to when I was offered an excellent chance at Coalville Times two years later but I was far too lazy to follow it up.

If you can build up a portfolio of people who you know involved with telephone numbers, making good impressions as well it helps a lot. They just love volunteer work.

Radio is a lot easier to take into as well and could be another starting point. I don't know enough about it but a friend of a friend works for Radio Essex in relation to Southend United because he put some legwork in when he was about 14 with Takeover Radio.

That's what I learnt from my very brief, half-attempt at trying to crack it. If the chance ever comes to write freelance and independant of anything, I may just give a go.

Radio is something that he's considered before.
I also know of somebody who contributed to Takeover Radio and is now a sports reporter for Radio 5.

I've got to organise two weeks work experience for him for July 2008 and will take on board what you've just said.
