Too many strikers?

What do you guys think?

We've signed Sappleton (one for the future) and Cort, but we already have Hume, Fryatt, Hammond. Hopefully Hammond will go this summer but that would still leave us with 4 strikers and yet we're being linked with more!!

I actually don't think that our strikeforce is that bad. The problem for the last couple of seasons has been service - what we actualy need are decent midfielders and maybe a winger or two(?!?!). You can have the best striker in the world but if he's not getting decent service he wont score many.

We're very lucky to have Hume. As we all know, he works endlessly and thats probably the only reason he was our top scorer last season. Imagine where we would have been without his grafting.....league one?

We basically have Hume and Fryatt. How good Cort will be will depend on how fit he stays. Sappleton (as most people seem to think) is one for the future. I'm going to discount Hammond as he has been put on the list, so can we really expect to go through the season with 2 and a bit strikers? With injuries and suspensions and bearing in mind we now have a reserves league as well, I would expect us to bring in at least another 2, possibly Mcleod and Todorov. (And no, I don't have a source or any insider info).

Rumor has it down here that you've got in ahead of Coventry and are about to sign Leon Best. Would be a small fee as he will be out of contract, but because of his age you will pay compensation, believed to be in the region of 200k.

He's a decent lad who did well at the end of the season. Shows promise but on who is for the future. We sent him out on loan quite a lot over the last season or two and it seems to have done him good. By no means the finished article, but a good size for a CF and is still young.

Dont agree... we've got Hume, Cort and Fryatt of those the only player we can have any confidence in being consistently fit and up to par (thats not saying neither Fryatt or Cort will come up with the goods... just that we cant be certain).

Beyond those three... Hammond and DeVries are off and we have Dodds, McKay and Stappleton who are all "ones for the future" and will be given their chance in the reserves (at least to start off with).

So i think we need another striker, having missed out on Saga we need to look for a forward who can pose a real and consistent threat (Todorov being the obvious candidate I suppose).

But your right about the midfield... namely we don't have one (bar Weso, Kish and some of the kids like King and Gradel) and that really needs sorting!

After the success of Stearman (in his early days before he developed a fancy-dan, big time charlie attitude that I am sure Mad Dog would not allow in future) and Mattock (maybe Porter up to a point), it would not surprise me to see players like Gradel, given a chance or two this coming season.

Toderov has rejected pompey according to their board so we may have another one soon!!!

I've got a memory like a sieve - wouldn't Todorov be another free? Also, what's his injury history like?

I've just read about Leon Best and looks like he's got a recurring foot injury.

Todorov would be good competition for Cort...............for the treatment table & don't forget how often Fryatt was not fit last season too

Big IF's but if Cort & Fryatt can stay fit, I would like to see Hume play just behind them, perhaps Kish as the anchor midfield (so more of a diamond) with the one of the other 2 midfielders being more of a natural wide man who can cross from deep (so a new signing).

That leaves Hellings & Weso battling for one place & Levi needed to improve his deep crossing skills to compete with the new signing.

Then the full backs push on - certainly Mattock looked as though he would be comfortably doing this (which Nissa never was) & then presume Chambers (or Stearman)

i thought that hellings was a left midfielder who could play left back or it might be the other way around

I think Hume will be played wide right and a goalscorer (Toddy or McLoud) brought in to partner Cort

to be honest what i said all last season was that we were scoring too many goals
