I'm going to a gig at Birmingham Carling Academy on Monday 20th October, and need to get back home that night, will it be possible to get home via train? I don't know how far the venue is from the station or anything.

Thanks in advance. :icon_bigg

Times might help as well. :icon_wink

Well the gig will finish at 9:30/10 (at a guess) - wasn't sure if trains would run that late?

Very unlikely you can get back the same night, but telling us what time would help. What would help even more is if you looked up the train times yourself. Nationalrail.co.uk is the best place for the info.

Looks like the last train.

Code:
Outward journey: Monday 20 October 2008 Station Arr Dep Travel by Service Provider
BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET 22:15 Train CROSSCOUNTRY
 LEICESTER 23:10

Thanks for your help Steve-o.

The National Rail website isn't working for me, so can't look at times myself, any other websites worth trying?

The last train is 10:15. If it was me I wouldn't plan to get the last train unless I was really confident the gig would finish in time. If you have no alternative I guess it's worth doing, as long as you don't mind spending the night at New St station if you miss it.

We have sorted it out, cheers for the help everyone.

We are indeed stopping in the Etap in Birmingham again, always stop there whenever I go Birmingham.

And Jessel, it was certainly not a pleasure, you kept me and my mate awake with your ****ing ridiculous loud snoring!!!

Anybody bought a train ticket through Megabus/train ? Just wondering if they actually send you a ticket or you just have to quote the booking reference to the train staff ?

No ticket - you have to quote a reference number. Some Megabus/train staff seem to prefer to see a computer printout of the booking but that is not compulsory - the reference number is all you need in whatever form you choose to convey it to them.

Excuse my ignorance but are there Megabus/train staff on the train or station or do I just show the reference number to the Ticket collector on the train.

Megabus - the driver carries a load sheet which contains the names and reference numbers of all intended passengers. He checks passengers on, except at Victoria Coach Station where it is usually done by another member of staff while the driver packs the luggage compartment.

Megatrain - no Megatrain staff. The reference number is checked by the Conductor on the train; he has a loading sheet. At open stations, there is no difficulty in reaching the platform but where barriers are in place, you have no ticket to show the staff or to operate the gates. Barrier staff are said to have loading sheets but I have never actually seen one - it seems to be enough to simply mutter, "Megatrain" to be allowed access.

SWWG might be able to say more if he is still around.
