whats the difference between an off peak return and an anytime day return ticket???

whats the difference between an off peak return and an anytime day return ticket???

An anytime ticket can be used at any time during the day,

An off peak ticket can't be used until after the morning peak (what time this is depends on the route/train company), and in some cases can't be used during the evening peak.

Off peak tickets should be cheaper, but there are some cases where the anytime ticket is cheaper!

it is hence me asking what the differences are :)

It's very important that you make sure that an off-peak ticket is valid for both legs of your intended journey - you may not be able to return on any train as you could with the old Saver ticket which it replaced. And as Jeff wrote, the times of the peaks vary (sometimes vastly) from route to route. Some routes don't have a peak but may still have the choice of off-peak and anytime tickets - don't be fooled by this.

There is also more restriction on 'break-of-journey' on off-peak returns, but I doubt if that would affect you.

Some routes have Super Off-Peak tickets which knock even more off the fare - sometimes as much as 30% - but these are even more restricted in the times that they can be used.

If your journey is a long one, it may also be worth 'splitting' your ticket. That is, getting one ticket to an intermediate station and another from there to your final destination.

or if you split tickets it can be cheaper.Let me know any destinantions and I will work out the cheapest fare.

A new line/upgraded line up the Westcoast between London And Glasgow has been proposed.Journey time between Lomdon and Glasgow to be cut to 2 hours 15 minutes, seems a bit ambitious

There's many a slip between cup and lip, but this scheme is perfectly workable given the right backing.

and be completed in 2035 or something daft like that

The Channel Tunnel was first mooted in 1802; it opened in 1994. By those standards, 2035 seems optimistic.

Train buffs please.:)

As per usual, moi is confused.

I want to travel to London on Sat 10th October.
Just checking on the National Rail enquires site, and it appears that i still cant buy an advance ticket.
How long before a departure date can you usually buy advance tickets ?

Here's another one for you (but please answer Brauny Blue's question first so he doesn't get upset):

I booked flights to London Gatwick today for 2-5 December. As you know, we play Forest away on the 5th. As you also know, the match kicks off at 13.00.

What you didn't know, but you do now, is that my flight home from Gatwick is 19.35 on the same day.

So my question is, can I get from City Ground to Gatwick Airport (South Terminal) in time to catch my flight? I guess I will have to pay more than usual, something I am prepared to do as it is a match of quite some importance and prestige.

Thank you.
