If I say he or she it likely to be wrong fifty percent of the time. If I say it, then that can be seen as rude so I am only left with 'they'. Moreover zink23 might represent more than one person.

On the contrary and making the natural presumption that zink23 is one person, if you had used 'he or she' you would have been correct 100% of the time. But why use a pronoun at all when zink23 is a perfectly good name?
