If anyone wants to do a run down of their opinions of each player with their rating, I for one would be very happy to read them here....

They all get a B-, good enough but could do better I reckon...from what I have read.

Most promising is we have a front pairing who are scoring goals...Been a while (Deane, Dickov?) since we had that and I really feel Howard and Fryatt/Dickov can do the job in this league..

To be fair, I am over the moon with this start, 7 points from 3 games is a fantastic start.

Martin - 7
Gilbert - 7
Hobbs - 8
Morrison - 7
Dyer - 5
Gradel - 8
Oakley - 6
King - 4
Porter - 4
Fryatt - 8 (purely for two goals, but a score of 4 based on performance alone)
Howard - 6

Fryatt and Howard have linked extremely well from the two games I've seen so far.

Must say it was a pleasure to see the team in the flesh. Had a great view from block J1. I think you full timers are a bit harsh on the team, we outclassed Tranmere for all but 20 minutes and most of the players looked good enough for division 1.

Martin - had little to do apart from a 15min section when he showed himself a decent shot blocker, deadball kicking wasn't fantastic but don't really understand the idiotic system of putting all 22 players in an 8th of the field hoping that Howard can head the ball into the mass from standing on the touchline. 7

Gilbert - Loved his boots and he has great footwork. Gambles a little and got a bit lazy at times in the second half, great speed to make up for mistakes 7.5

Hobbs - really impressed me. was motm. good positional awareness good heading against their top man. good improve direction of clearances but at least he always cleared it. one or two small mental lapses but could become a very good defender with leadership ability. 8.5

Morrison - After listening to the first games on the radio I was expecting big things. He was solid but not outstanding. 7

Dyer - Fast and focussed for a player out of position, think Melts is being harsh, he did a good job especially in the first half linked well going forward but ineffective on strike. 6.5

Gradel - obviously hoping for good things. Can see great potential but didn't really show it today. His crosses need more work, but he should take people on especially inside the box more. He could do some real damage there. Loved the way he ran back in defense and gave it his all. injury? maybe he was tired. Think he's a great find for the fans, needs coaching encouragement. 7.5

Oakley - I was impressed with his game. one of the few players to close the opposition down - our biggest defensive weakness in midfield. intelligently positioned himself and passed the ball well - one of our best passers. A worthy captain. 8

King - what a dog - get rid. okay he moved well a couple of times but he made more passes to tranmere players than City, he couldn't score in a brothel (as the chant says) and his defence was a liability. 3.5

Porter - he has some good attacking moves and links well. I thought he helped out defensively well too. needs more confidence in his scoring ability but doesn't deserve the Melts score. 6.5

Fryatt - runs his little socks off. lacks some quality but makes up for it in effort. feed him enough and it'll pay off, he never stops trying. 7.5

Howard - he is the focal point of the attack. He has to head and place every hoofed ball while under pressure. He does that well but really the city shouldn't be relying on that - we should be running the ball up the field much more than hoofing it from the goalie. He is an intelligent and skilled footballer who lacks half a yard of speed and perhaps a little stamina. 7

Adams - really played well when he came on both attacking and defending. deserves a start, seems fast and intelligent, linked well. 7.5

Dickov - still wily, not in tune with the team yet and maybe lost a bit of speed. hope it works out , not sure though. 6.5

Dyer - Fast and focussed for a player out of position, think Melts is being harsh, he did a good job especially in the first half linked well going forward but ineffective on strike. 6.5
Really?

I gave him 5, you gave him 6.5. Or, I gave him 50/100, you gave him 65/100.

Our scores are not really a million miles away, are they?

Sounds like a description of a certain City forward from last season...

Well written report, FIF.

Sounds to me like the description of a schoolboy player who really isn't good enough for the team he is playing in, not that of a professional footballer.

not a criticism, just a difference of opinion, I rate him about 25% better than you did.

Glad to see you think King was a dud though

lots of 8's from people, still not convinced myself. 3-1 scoreline was good and pleased me, but I would like to see a little bit more quality from a fairly decent (Div 1) team.

Early stages yet plenty of time to gel.

This was a good result considering that our left side was a mess. That is not a criticism of Pearson as it is real bad luck to have Tunchev out while Mattock is still recovering. I rate Dyer highly and will be glad to see him back in his proper position. I think people are being harsh on Fryatt. He has scored four goals in three games and his head seems right. Last season he never seemed to recover from Martin Allen wanting him to make way for Campbell. If Powell is going to come in at left back who will make way for Tunchev since both Hobbs and Morrison played well. Incidentally Porter and Dyer were having a right go at each other in the first half.

I think Kisnorbo is gonna struggle to get back in this side.

Winning breeds confidence, and its something we have not had for about 5 years.
It will make a change for the players to be able to have a go, and not feel the tension and the wrath of the crowd every time they play at the Walkers.
Imo better times ahead, and this side should develop and improve as the season goes on. Looking o.k from where i'm standing.:icon_bigg
