Assuming, of course, that the mood of the fans is that they all want their 2.5% VAT back...

Personally I think it's pretty decent of them to donate it to charity. Why not? It's pennies - if you can afford tickets to football games, you can stand to lose - or not have refunded - what amounts to about 49p.

People always forget (or don't bother thinking about) what businesses have a deal with when things like VAT change with virtually no notice. It was a nightmare for me when it went up to 17.5% - I practically lost three days just sorting it all out. But typically, the public expects the business to sort it quickly and effeciently, without moaning, AND to pass the discount on as well, so it's a lose-lose for the retailer. The best you can hope for is to not look too bad...

So City donate the difference to charity, and yep, they're the bad guys! :icon_roll

The Government have made it very clear that the VAT reduction, the recent reduction in the Base rate and other measures are designed to help the consumer and to stimulate spending. The club's decision to give the money to charity does nothing to help the consumer and is not a particularly effective way to give money to charity.

Perhaps you should tell somebody with a thousand pound a month mortgage that he can afford it and that he doesn't need his bank/building society to pass on the benefit of the reduction in interest rates.

what a load of bollocks DF.......... How come the club can sell tickets for a fiver every now and then through the Mercury? How can they sell tickets for £15 for cup games and that was when they wanted to sell them for less to attract bigger crowds? It seems they can reduce the costs when they want to.
Also it's not about 49p, it's the principle when other businesses have to change to 15%.

even if it is about 49p

49p * 20,000 a game = 10k

10k a game for a dozen games..12k...given away for nothing

As they are feeling so charitable, I wonder if the club would have been so quick to absorb the price change had the VAT been increased

It should also be up to the individual who wants to donate the money to a charity or not. It should not be the clubs decision.

A lot of people probably already donate to charities and with money tight at the moment may want to spend the 49p x 14 (ish) £7.00 on a christmas present?

PS: How do you use the v-bookie?

You send me £1425 in real cash (pm me for my address) and then I'll allow you to use your V-cash to bet on events in the v-bookie section of the forum.

Such a donation could also be subject to Gift Aid on which the charity could reclaim the tax already paid by the donor.

Click on vBookie in the menu bar at the top of the TB page. You will see a list of 'OPEN' events. Click in 'Thread' underneath the event in which you are interested.

It should be clear from there on.

Thanks it is now...

It would be legal for them to put up the prices half way through the season, and that's effectively what they've done.

Other clubs, including Leeds and the sheep have decided to cut their ticket prices.

Will this be for away tickets? Shelling out £27 for Leeds away is tough thing to do.
I'll still be going nonetheless

personally, I've got more important things to worry about
That being a succinct version of what I'm really getting at - who really gives a feck?

What happens to this 2.5% will affect nobody posting on this website in any meaningful way whatsover.

It will reinforce the feelings of many that the Club doesn't give a **** about their supporters.

That would be easily taken care of by reflecting it in a figure taken off next years ST prices

It would also be the economics of the madhouse - they have paid H M Revenue & Customs the Vat charged at 17.5% and are not due any of it back as the tax point ( when they sold the season tickets ) was way before 1st December 2008.

Agreed. People who have already paid have nothing to come back. This discussion can only relate to tickets bought after the date of the reduction.

I wonder if the costs will go down for the food and drink as well. Hot food and drink attracts VAT.

.

I agree with those who say that the season ticket situation makes this a complex situation.I do not want lower prices for non-season ticket holders. The club surely does not want them either because they want people to decide to buy season tickets next year.
Boccadillo's warning is a serious one but it can be overcome provided the club targets its charities to help consumption. The club could use the money to buy toys for children's homes and similar kinds of good causes. This would not only be good in itself but would surely help the toy industry which will have a very difficult time this year.

Why did the thought of emptying the LCFC cupboards of a Filbert Fox stockpile come to mind when I read this......

Firstly is doesn't matter one bit if you agree with the tickets being lower or not, it's a VAT change that has made this problem, and I cannot recall the government consulting any LCFC ST holders prior to the change to see if they were happy with it or not.

Secondly, believe it or not, the club is still getting the same amount of money per seat anyway, the ticket prices have not gone down the feckin VAT went down. People who bought ST paid VAT at the going rate, anybody who buys one now will pay VAT at the going rate.

Also our toy industry went years ago, the toy people are now in China.
