I genuinely don't know who we would play in central midfield if King / Oakley got injured. My gut instinct is that (a) there's a recall clause in Weso's loan and (b) Pearson would probably play Kisnorbo central midfield (which is not a prospect I would relish).

I'm really not complaining about the squad, I just think losing a central midfielder could seriously hinder us.

Couldn't Adams play there?

Personally, I don't think so. It's been suggested that he was bought as a winger / central midfielder, but I just don't see it. His strengths are that he has a bit of pace, he seems capable of beating a man and his delivery into the box is reasonably good. His weaknesses IMO are his ball retention, his ball winning (he shirked a couple of winnable challenges on Saturday) and his positional sense. He is just too lightweight for my liking - we can afford that on the wing, but not in the middle.

You could have levelled similar criticisms at King, but I think he has improved significantly this year, particularly his desire to make a challenge and his positional awareness. For me, he has always been decent on the ball, but tended to be too anonymous in games - I don't think that's the case any more.

That said, any midfield without Oakley would not fill me with confidence.

I think he could do a job there - I see him as a Scott Taylor of old type player in the centre. Box to box type. He's got an key for a pass, not a bad touch, and looks comfortable enough on the ball.
IMO his delivery in to the box is poor, and something that he really needs to improve on if he's going to make it as a winger.

I've changed my mind, tonight i'd probably play:

Martin

Tunchev Kisnorbo Hobbs Powell

Oakley

Adams King Dyer

Fryatt Howard

Subs: Gradel, Gilbert, Henderson, Hayles, Mattock.

Good feeling tonight.
