Inevitable that he will leave in the fairly near future.
The one thing that puzzles me is if and once he is centrally contracted by the ECB and his availability for county cricket is curtailed - then how much value will he have to Warks or anyone else? Or does Ashley Giles think he will make the ODI squad but will struggle to make a test squad?
I suppose the answer is that Warks can afford to have players who have a promotional value to the club even if they rarely play.
Our finances are so poor that we can't afford luxuries.
Although I'm not keen on T20, my guess is that the only significant improvement that Leics can make in terms of gate revenue is through investment in the squad for that format of the game. I really believe that even if we were highly successful in the Championship that it wouldn't make that much difference to attendances - there is just a limit to the people who are interested and able to watch the 4 day game.
I am a member at LCCC but actually support WCCC (sort of but can't be bothered to go to Birmingham to watch cricket) and it seems strange to me, currently Warks are getting beaten regularly because their 2 best batsmen aren't available (Trott and Bell) and their idea to fix this is sign another batsman that will never be available. I know that counties get compensated for centrally contracted players but how this makes up for losing the matches I don't know.
I did sense a bit of media stirring in the article though, with all that stuff about him being unsettled.
If he is unsettled, I would guess that batting at number 6 on Saturday evening wouldn't have made him any less unsettled.
I would hope that he is mature enough to realise that a batting order is horses for courses and that his role is as a 'finisher'.
I thought the same re: captaincy.
I think the more games he plays for England the less likely he would be to leave. We couldn't really afford to offer him a contract or opportunities to compete with the top sides.
I kind of think he might stay for another season, would definifely help if we won the T20, but if he doesn't become an england regular next season then he will probably leave.
Top scoring again for Lions.....Trott's replacement?
They've gone with Bopara as Trott's replacement.
The selectors are always very conservative in these matters - plus Bopara (like Trott) can bowl a few overs.
Leicestershire is - and always has been (except for the Illingworth/ Gower era) a very, very unfashionable county. Old supporters will remember how Maurice Hallam in his prime found it impossible to get selected.
I'm afraid if Taylor wants an England career his best move would be to go to Warks - and I say that as someone who doesn't like Warks or Edgbaston.
