You know, you shot this guy down for no good reason. He said the signings we've made have been disappointing, then he gets roundly slated by you lot. Then a matter of minutes later it emerges that Ian Holloway, who shits gold nuggets in many of your collective eyes, is also disappointed with who he's managed to bring in.

I think some of you have got so hung up on this idea that some City fans, rather than being on the same side, are actually Blue Mongies and that anyone who backs up Martin Allen, slags off Holloway or questions Mandaric is a dickhead that you've actually lost sight of the problems at the club. Our problems have been a series below-par managers and an erratic chairman who - it's true - hasn't parted with nearly as much of his cash as we'd hoped. When you think of the transfer's weve missed out on - Job, Fulop etc. - genuine quality platers as opposed to squad fillers and 'shots in the dark' - and that we missed out on these quality players because Milan didn't want to pay the fees, well I think you have a right to feel disappointed.

Howard aside, we've only signed a 35 year old journeyman and 3 loan players (none of which have any championship experience). This is hardly the transfer blitzkrieg we were promised.
Where is the left back and the experienced midfielder that Holloway mentioned were needed to guide the younger players through?
Isiah Osbourne is half decent, but him and Clemence alongside two junior hungarian wingers will not have coventry or anyone else arse quaking.

Does anyone feel a bit dissapointed that only 1.65 million has been spent and we don't seem able to win competition on wages over any other clubs for the like Martin, Norris etc.

It may be only Jan 11th, so time to go yet. But we don't have the luxury of waiting it out. We'll be bottom by the time he gets more players in!

We are at the rate of 5 players per 10 days, that will be 15 at this rate FFS. No pleasing some. TBH I am pleased with his signings, we have so far accumlated a couple of wildcards one plays for Greek champs, the other for Hungarian leaders, a proven goalscorer, a proven poacher and a Under-21 England keeper.

A lot better class of player than we had in for the past 4 years IMO

I agree. But these additions that we have to date are probably, if the season were to re-start now, enough to get LCFC to about 10th-12th, well away from being perilously close to relegation but well-away from top 6 and miles behind WBA's class.
Whilst the signings to date leave the squad well below top 6 standard (no, I don't expect LCFC to finnish anywhere near this season) I agree there is still AMPLE TIME to go in this transfer window, so like most of the posters I am not concerned yet. A couple of the best players seem to have gone elsewhere which is a bit of a worry but there's still time so let's not criticise until the end of the window - and hopefully there will be no need to criticise becasue the eventual signings will be good. In the time that's left I do think we need some more proven players - the Hungarians are a speculative punt, we cannot rely on them to be good (as in the case of Kaebi) our strategy should be that if they are that would be a bonus but I would like a proven winger & proven CM.

Trouble is we have a mindset that we are a big club and that players should walk over broken glass to get here. But in the real world for the last few seasons we have fought a relegation battle and without MM we might not have been in a position to even do that.Wolves,Albion,Sheffield Utd etc are also big clubs with premiership aspirations not to mention the cash laden club that QPR have become, good players are a precious commodity and can pick their clubs and at the moment IH would need to have swallowed not kissed the Blarney Stone to get some of them here

I have no idea why anybody would think that these players are enough to guarantee a top half finish. Two wingers we've never heard of, well I would have thought you'd already learnt your lesson on that one. A 35 and a 31 year old who look badly off the pace, which is oddly reminiscent of the Adams' policy of collecting anyone and everyone over the age of 30. I'm not saying that the future signings won't be good, in fact I quite like Oakley and Osbourne, but the squad is hopelessly lacking. And regardless of their ability, the instability and insecurity prevalent at the club is bound to be very very damaging.

i think we can all agree that regardless of how positive we are about current signings we'd all be more than happy to see oakley, norris and a proven winger, left back on the squad.
having devries, maybury, douglas, henderson, kenton and hammod rotting on the payroll makes it harder i suppose, but that's the legacy of bad management.

And you think these top quality players we are missing out on should be begging to play here?

Quite - which is what IH has been landed with.

But it means feck all if you em ship off on loan elsewhere - the Serbian Tycoon is footing the bill and a number of contracts expire this Summer.

Actually Leicester City FC are.......

Should be good enough for top 12 place given a full 40 game season I said - probably 12-15th at moment as not many games left. The crucial weakness has been no goalscorers and no midfield creativity - which is being remedied. Since my post more strenghening has come (as expected) Oakley confirmed for instance. As for the forward line, I see the "31 year old" as a good buy and not off the pace at all. As for the 35 year old, he should have a good season (this one) left in him. IH has seen him up close so he knows if there's still any gas left in the tank or if he's clapped out. Besides Hayles is just in competition with Fryatt, Hume and - very shortly - Campbell, so he might only be a squad player anyway. In front of a resurgent midfield these forwards should be good enough to ensure survival this season and if Fryatt still fails to shine despite a good midfield then he'll surely be replaced in the summer by someone better. We are in agreement about the wingers. I said the same as you - we need a proven championship standard winger and not rely on the Hungarians. If they do well we can factor it into our plans to rely on them next season, but for this season we need someone of proven ability at this level now.

Right,

1) How can the signings have been 'disappointing'? Most of them haven't played for us yet, and in the case of the Hungarians you haven't ever seen them play to make that observation yet anyway.

2) Holloway didn't say he was disappointed with what he's bought in, he said he would have hoped to have more players in by now, which is something else entirely.

3) No one has ever said that. Martin Allen however is very much to blame for how many absolutely shite players we have.

4) I hope you don't mean we should just throw silly money at players until they come. That worked well for us before didn't it?

5) If we had thrown £3 million, or whatever Sunderland wanted, down the drain for Fulop, that would have been the stupidest thing this club could possibly have done. Instead we have not done that and have got someone else in on Loan, and saved the money.

What people have to remember is that we need to strengthen in some areas this window, to ensure that we finish safely and hopefully somewhere in mid table, then come the summer, when theres more time and less pressure, and it is also less of a 'sellers market' like it is now, we can sort the team out properly. We need to be realistic here, we are not going to finish top half now, we need some stability, a bit of long term planning, and to seriously trim the squad down.

I just want a season where we are not in danger of being relegated come April, and then hopefully next season we can build on it and look upwards towards the top half, and perhaps even the playoffs. It needs patience, and for everyone not to get carried away again and start thinking we're going to win the league by 55 points just because we're 'too big a club for the Championship'.

Well said mousey boi, I didn't have time earlier to respond to that bizarre rant by syd.
He seems to think we are all one collective person with the same opinions, very odd.
