Watford Game moved for TV

Was mentioned earlier about the club loosing money on tv games, so just thought i'd add a point

The club looses money on gates compared to the 'extra' tv money they recieve for being on tv, but this doesn't take into account the money paid to every club for their share of the TV deal.

If there was a limit imposed on how many games could be moved, then i'm sure Sky would pay less for the rights, which would impact our, and every other clubs financies.
The league as a whole benefits from the deal so they naturally will want to accomodate Sky's demands.

Only just seen the Mercury article.

According to that the club recieves £80,000 in compensation for the televised games. average attendances drop by only 2000 which at £30 a ticket would be a drop of £60,000 a game. While there may be other expenses for a televised game, and a drop in concourse sales (not sure if that would hit the club, the caterer or both?) i doubt the club make a significant loss, if any.

I know the club count season ticket holders that don't attend in the attendance so it seems to me that season ticket holders are the only ones to loose out.

It would be expensive though for the club to offer significant compensation to the season ticket holders, so can't see it happening unless there is a big drop in sales next season.

A quick glance at the attendance figure for the Middlesbrough game should lay that old chestnut to rest.

Hull have had 6 midweek home games all season. We have had 6 midweek home games since Friday 18th Jan. Also Interesting that this is the same period that are form has taken a slump*...

*This is in no way me defending the team or NP, just merely pointing it out.

Turning a blind eye to the spelling, how exactly do season ticket holders lose out?

Very Kind of you.

Those season ticket holders that are not able to attend.
What about the ones that can attend on the rearranged date/time but not the original one?
And did they buy the tickets knowing when the fixtures were anywho?

As much I'd like to criticise the club you can't. Particularly when they willing to give you an extra ticket for another game if you can't make a fixture. Other than giving you you're money back, it's about the best they can do.

If you have a problem with it, the best answer is not buy a season ticket and reject attending Sky tv games next season. People have got wise up; if you want to make it hurt Sky etc, stopping turning up to their televised games and stop subcribing to their service. I reckon most what moan about not making the game cos it's moved on television will then make a good effort to watch it on Sky.

The rejection of it all has to begin somewhere. It's the old chestnut of 'how can you moan about the govt., if you never voted in the first place'.

The original fixture list had 17 home fixtures on a Saturday at 3:00pm and 6 midweek.

While you should expect some to move, Anyone considering a Season ticket would expect the majority of home games to be played on Saturday at 3:00pm. I don't consider a season ticket because i can never attend these.

Good post Hazz. I doubt the club or Sky are missing my money this season, but hopefully if and when a few thousand more start to stay away they'll notice.

The average attendance drop is misleading, because they're not comparing like with like.
Televised matches are usually more attractive matches that would have higher than average attendances, so I imagine the real drop is more than 2,000.
Sometimes the club reduces prices as a result of the match being televised, so that will cost them too.
There are also other factors involved, such as a drop in corporate income, and possible cancellation of other events that may have been due to take place at the stadium.

The simple response to that arse-nugget is: "Does government legislation apply to me if I don't vote?"

I really don't understand what it has to do with the club or Sky though

Has anyone looked into this? I vote for none of the ****ers so I may have paid some taxes that'll be due back.

I've been to none, even the short trip to Boro was beyond the effort I'm willing to put in. In the last few seasons I've gone from going to 35-40 games to going to none. The speculation about how much some of our players earn now compared to genuine stars of when we were good has left me with no sense of pride in their 'achievements'
In order to 'prove a point', I gave up my season ticket when I heard that Neil Lennon was earning 30K a week.

The following season I went to all the games anyway, thus paying even more. The only point I proved was that I'm a gullible twat.

Are you sure it cost you more? The ground was fuller in those days and season tickets did not offer any great discount. There was one season when a Carling Wing Stand season ticket cost £5 more than tickets for the individual matches. Season tickets were more of a convenience than a saving then.

Which of us wouldn't pay a Lennonesque player a kings ransom these days eh?
