And as for yesterday's performance, I'm sure it's been discussed at length elsewhere, but for once I was gutted only about the result and not whinging to my wife about another dull, uninspired performance.

Hammond, Hume and Smith going forward looked exciting and energetic. Stoke scored 2 goals from nowhere, and defensively we were poor, but if Joey's thunderbolt had have gone in or if Smith/Hume could have finished their chances we would have been 3-1 up and coasting.

And credit to CL, I though De Vries would be back in the side as he is one of his favourites, but he has seen that the formation works and has stuck with it. It was the players to blame yesterday not CL.

This is all getting far too complicated.

In simple terms: firstly, the results are poor for a club that has one of the highest wage bills in the division; secondly, the results and league position indicate no significant improvement over the last year.

These are facts...all the rest of the stuff about the progress of particular are individual judgements.

This season is now a complete write-off and we just have to hope that there is no unexpectedly dire run that takes us into a relegation dog fight.

My reading of the situation is that Levein has not really got to grips with English (fizzy league) football and I think his managership is a blind alley.
