A good sign is the sign that players want to sign for longer because the club is currently throwing money it can not afford at half-arsed performing players and a manager who aren't good enough to perform in the Premiership and not look for the exit sign.

Great news.

Hmm.

What on earth makes you think that has changed at all ?

It just means that, this way, we pick up more money when we flog him

Exactly. I'm afraid that some people don't quite understand the deal. He gets a decent pay deal and a bit more security as he moves into his thirties- and the club improves its options by being able to sell him on for a respectable fee if an offer they can't refuse come in.

Why are you afraid, I doubt it's of any risk to you.

Being such a nice person, I just feel sorry for people who are so naive and don't grasp the realities of professional football and I'm afraid that they end up being disappointed.

You're right I'm not at any risk of being disappointed......not only am I nice, I'm also justifiably highly sceptical. Wellens is 31 next week - not much chance he will be playing in the Premier League as a midfielder at 34. If he gets the chance to move on to that level this close season he will grab the chance....irrespective of this contract - and quite rightly so from his point of view.
