Lazio fans I spoke to in Rome about eight years ago certainly thought Sven was a great manager. At the time I was reminded of the way Forest fans spoke about Clough.

A Benfica fan I know who posts on another forum also speaks of him in awe.

I think its about finding the right balance of not being optimistic cuz if you ain't you ain't a propah lestoh fan and being overly negative etc. I am optimistic but cautious

and now I'll get those splinters out my arse

Can't argue against his record, can argue against his transfer record though. Last time he spent some money, there was a lot of misses. I am not negative, just not swept up in optimism. I think Nugent and St. Ledger could be very good signings. Peltier has been excellent when I've watched him play but he's very prone to a booking or two. Main concern is Schmeichel, dont rate him tbh.

Exactly. And what Homer pointed out earlier. I feel our squad is currently not in a better position with the signings he has made thus far. Although from our final league position, I believe we had a squad that underachieved last year, blame Sousa, Svens lack of time for preparation, whatever. We were in with a good shout in February and lost our nerve. I blamed the strength and depth of the squad.

4 weeks to go with a few distractions inbetween, I am however hopefull Sven will come up with the goods.

Big season for the club, big expectation. Should there be another repeat of last years rather damp squib, it won't spell the end of the world for or club (At least I hope not) I just feel this is a real opportunity to make a mark and push for promotion. When this is achieved we appear to have the backing for a good stab at becoming an established Prem team again.

I not sure folk here are particularly worried about your current predicament. Best not to mention, it run along.
Whoosh.
Edit: for clarity, that's the noise an airplane makes as it goes overhead.

Really, I thought that after the first 10 games we were never in with a shout, sure a winning streak got a lot of us excited but it was never going to last until the end of the season and we were always playing catch up.

It would have been an imense effort to get promoted after the start we had. It was just dissapointing to fall out of the playoff mix the way we did. Something went a miss towards the end of the season but we also had bad patch of form in December that cost us.

What a surprise.

No chance the likes of Peltier, St Ledger and Schmichael develop into premier league footballers then?

Calm down.

It's certainly possible that players will improve under within a good coaching and management set-up.

The point I was trying to make is that it would need much more investment in quality than £10m if we do get promoted this season. I would guess that the manager and owners already know that very well.

I will admit that I find it trying when people post OTT stuff regarding new signings who they have probably never even seen play - and I also think that this is becoming a highly competitive league with a whole group of clubs that are prepared to invest in the hope of getting promoted. It should make for a highly interesting season - but as always we probably need a bit of a flying start to build momentum.

The only thing I will say to that though is that every season "it is the hardest championship yet with more competition than ever" (not a quote from you, but commentators etc always predict it) and yet it never really is. There are always teams falling off at the bottom and storming ahead at the top and the middle bunch are always in with a shout at the playoffs until the end.

Joey, do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked, in the head, by an iron boot? Of course you don't...no one does...that never happens.
