Freddie Mercury died 20 years ago today

Brian May recently announced* that a series of duets that Freddie recorded with Michel Jackson are to be released in 2012. Possibly this one "There must be more to life than this" will be among them.

There must be more to life than this
There must be more to life than this
How do we cope in a world without love
Mending all those broken hearts
And tending to those crying faces

There must be more to life than living
There must be more than meets the eye
Why should it be just a case of black or white
There must be more to life than this

Why is this world so full of hate
People dying everywhere
And we destroy what we create
People fighting for their human rights
But we just go on saying c'est la vie
So this is life

There must be more to life than killing
A better way for us to survive
What good is life, in the end we all must die There must be more to life
than this

There must be more to life than this
There must be more to life than this
I live and hope for a world filled with love
Then we can all just live in peace
There must be more to life, much more to life
There must be more to life, more to life than this

*Queen stars Brian May and Roger Taylor are working on tracks featuring the late Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson which will be ready "in the next year".

The demos were recorded in the Eighties at Jackson's house while Queen were on tour in the US. At the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour ceremony at the Camden Roundhouse, May, 64, said: "We've been talking to Jackson's estate and they're happy."

The Billy Bragg. The Victim Of Geography LP.

I'll dig out some Leadbelly next.

I'm not a fan of lyrics generally. I don't listen to a song to hear what the singer has to say about his love life/political stance/financial situation etc.

To me, the finest lyricists are people like Mark E. Smith and HalfMan HalfBiscuit withsongs about nonsense and codswallop.

I've jus dug out some records that I've not played for a few years.

The first two Maximo Park LPs (A Certain Trigger & Our Earthly Pleasures). So very good.
