During the game when Powell and Stowell were in charge there were a barrage of simple instructions. For example when a Scunthorpe winger was going down the line in a not very dangerous position with Vitor along side him the simple instruction was "Don't foul. Don't foul. Don't foul". This seemed to me to be very useful.

It's just a different style of management. I remember there was an interview with an ex-player recently (can't for the life of me remember who) who said that he never heard the manager's shouts or would zone them out in the focus/adrenaline of the game and saw them as being rather pointless. Calling over the captain in breaks of play and just giving them tactical advise is much more useful generally.

A completely trivial but curious question is why the subs have changed the direction they warm up. Under Pearson they warmed up running toward the Kop. Sousa stopped this even turning them back first game and ordering them away from the Kop. It is inconsequential but it was clearly a deliberate decision and I wonder why.

I wonder David. I do a lot of games as a neutral and nearly all the players warm up on the opposite side to the lino this season. .

I think there used to be a rule that subs had to warm up on the same side as the linesman (yes I said linesman - I also say centre half) so they didn't interfere with his/her line of sight for offside decisions.

But with the subs wearing a different colour to the shirt these days that's probably not an issue any more.
