I'm also thinking of getting one for Christmas, I'll try and make sure I get one through the link.

Never had another console aprt from Sega or Sony.
Don't know whether I'll be able to adjust.

I've had Sega, Sony, Nintendo and Xbox. I had a Commodore Amiga as well.

Top bombing MHS, look forward to playing you.

You need to get PGR3 as well though.

Right, im sure it's been explained before somewhere but,

I am fairly certain of getting a 360 for Christmas and I want to play online.

Do I need to buy anything extra to do this and is it easy to set up?

You'll need to buy a subscription to Xbox live. £40 per year, but there are plenty of deals going on ebay and in dealers etc that will give you a promotional code to get cheaper access.

The ethernet cable comes in the box to connect up to a router or whatever you're using. If you want wireless you'll have to buy a wireless receiver to plug in the back.

Other than that, no

What is a router and where would I use one?

I'm pretty shit with names I haven't got a clue what each wire or hardware is.

If you haven't got a router then it's irrelevant, just plug the cable straight into a phone socket

A router can share your Internet service and it is the always-on state that Broadband offers to play online. It also allows you to use the PC for the Internet at the same time.

I have a netgear wireless with the wireless adapter, which works well.

Take a look here you should find some answers here: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/xbox/connect/faq/routers.htm

you cant do that melts, you cant plug an ethernet cable in to the phone socket.

PDS Have you got broadband? If so go check your modem/router for an ethernet socket (its usually marked as Ethernet on the unit these days). If not you cant play :icon_cry:

Just checked on my NTL Broadband thingy.

It has a big green slot which says enet underneath so I guess that is it.

So I just plug this cable from the Xbox to this slot and it works?
Only probem is they are on completely opposite sides of the room.:icon_lol:

Oh, cheers. :icon_bigg
Now seems a bit clearer, I have just never played games online before so wasn't sure what I was looking for and didn't want to waste loads of money if I didn't have the correct specifications.

So what other games do people recommend apart from Gears Of War and PGR3

Thank you Durham, Melton and KLFox for your help.:038:

An X-box 360 might well be coming down the chimney this Christmas
