As bad as the Mclintock season was I would agree he inherited a squad past its best whereas Taylor started with a squad that needed little management which should when we went top of the premiership. He then proceeded to dismantle the team and waste all the money gained through the successful MON period.

So its :068:Taylor for me

:038: :038: Exactly what I thought except you have put it better than I could. Mine would have had too many swear words in it to make it understandable.
Oh, plus the fact that he still thinks he had nothing to do with it. :021:

Start one. ;)

MON is bound to get the vote...but if you look at actual records in terms of league position achievements there is a case for both Matt Gillies and Jimmy Bloomfield.....if you look at football style and panache, it has to be Jimmy Bloomfield.

As usual this thread suppots negative thinking
Can we have a poll of who has been the best manager

It's a feckin forum, ignore the threads you don't like, enjoy the ones that you do & start a thread if you think one is missing.

It's really straight forward.

True. Gillies' record over 12 years was way ahead - 5 cup finals, one win, one trip into Europe. And if qualification for Europe had bee the same as now there would also have been one champions league campaign and 2, possibly 3 in the Uefa cup as well.

Even I am too young for Gillies - but agree with what you are saying about Bloomfield. I started in the Frank O'Farrel era, but is was the Bloomfield boys that got me hooked.

If you look at success on the field it has only MON and Gillies brought that at the highest level. Taylor was bad for the club and we are still paying for it, but personally for me Pleat was the worst. It proved it even more when he left what heights some of the players reached while under him they nearly finished up in the old 3rd. division.

Yes - 44 years ago this week on Easter Tuesday - Leicester City beat Man U 4-3 at Filbert Street (hat tricks for Ken Keyworth, City & Dennis Law for United) and we were top of the old first division with just a few weeks to the end of the season. Further, we went into a FA Cup Final a few weeks later - again v Man u...with Leicester as the bookies favourites!!!!....Not even MON reached those heights.
