Based on last season i would have said 5 players could be considered guaranteed regular first teamers (barring injuries/suspensions)

RB Stearman
CB Paddy Mac
CB Paddy Kis
St Hume
St Fryatt

Im sure most would agree (even RK), still leaves many other positions up for grabs and it baffles me why weve signed a CB and a RB/CB, with funds so tight has he really got the priorities right?

ps add:

CM Johnson
RW Low

To the above list

Maybe RK is going for the "if you have a solid defence you will not concede very many and ultimately this will lessen our loss rate" motto. This is true and if he is doing this then i applaud him. Reading let in a grand total of only 32 goals last season and Preston only 30 goals and look where they ended up!

However, there is the point that we need to score many goals too. Reading scored 99, Watford 77 and Sheff Utd 76. Dirty Leeds only scored 6 more than us but they failed to capitalise on their play-off place. Perhaps RK is going to sign another midfielder and/or striker before the next campaign starts. Then again we do have Fryatt, Hume, De Vries, Elvis, althought tha last three aren't prolific. Perhaps a call for Chambers or Dodds from the academy?

Do we have enough for midfield? anyone who stands out as the major leader of the middle like Joey?

I think that is the new guys job, andy johnson.

I also agree that at least a back up striker is needed. MDV has stated that he wants away (as far as i understand it) and elvis is not really any good even as back up for the strikers IMO (as a back up right winger I would keep him). I think we need a 27-30 year old tall duncan ferguson type (and no Im not suggesting we sign him) to come in the last 20minutes when needed to capatalise on set pieces when we need the odd goal.

A bit like Ian Marshall, Brian Deane etc...

But to answer the title of the thread. No one is certain to start. It all depends on how pre-season goes, and who is signed/sold during the summer. We would predict the likes of McCarthy, Fryatt to be in the starting line up next season, but anything could happen between now and the start of the season. I hope nothing does happen though!

Well Paddy K isn't, as he's suspended for the first game, so If McAuley or Kenton do well, will he change a successful formation?

Don't think Low is a certain starter, the combination of Maybury & Stearman interchanging was working quite well, for the first away game I reckon they will be the right side starters.

Bearing in mind there is over a month to the start of the new season, I would say it is virtually impossible to state who will and won't start the season in a City shirt. As the last week has proved by the 3 new signings, football can change very quickly and in another months time who is to say that a couple of players havent left and another couple joined. It is too early to start speculating on line ups and who is certain to start.
