Yes, really. In the wrong context, you could have had a point, but in this case you're just being silly.

It is perfectly reasonable to describe someone as 'black' when coming up with a number of descriptive words to imply similarity with another black person.

Many things are worth getting offended about nowadays but this really isn't one of them.

Saying that a black person is black is fine. Just like saying Paul O'Grady is white is fine. No really, it's that simple. Now let's get on with our lives.

But pointing out that someone is black, when you wouldn't mention his colour if he was white, can be a problem. Why in that situation is his colour relevant?

In BN's case there's so obviously no malicious intent. He's just trying to be a bit funny. It's just a way of describing a person and one option of many. If you're watching Dave Kitson on a football field he's "the ginger guy". Jonjo Shelvey is "the bald guy". If you were pointing out Nathan Dyer to a friend you might say "the short black guy" to distinguish him from Leon Britton, as he's also short.

So it is fine to say that people are short now?

That would be distinguishing one person from another in a group.

"I'm sure we've had a lanky, central midfielder that wore the number 25 shirt before . . . .

Let's hope he's more of a Yaya Toure type than Junior Lewis." Would have sufficed in this context.

Quick news and good news. Doubt we will see him starting for a little while though an FA Cup game against Everton is a chance to get his fitness up and pick up some experience against the same standard opposition he'll be facing in the league..

Am I allowed to say that it's good to see him holding up a white shirt?

Huzzah!! It's officially official!

I find that number offensive though. 25 people died, um, somewhere... in something... at sometime. Has he no respect?
