Windows 10 - should I upgrade?

Had a pop-up from Microsoft earlier asking me if I want to pre-register for a free upgrade to Windows 10 - currently on Windows 7 64bit.

I hate Windows 8 (along with most other people) but apparently Windows 10 has new options to avoid some of 8's failings.

In the past Microsoft have always followed up decent releases with piss-poor ones so I'm hoping that 10 will be the best after 7 (with 8 as the dog inbetween).

Anybody have any thoughts?

Will it have an adverse effect on your playlist?

Why do you hate most other people?

I've installed a beta of Windows 10 on an old laptop and it's fine, maybe you could play around with it on an old PC to see if you like it.

Not sure I want to try a beta when the (almost) finished product will be slightly different, but have you got a link? Is the beta still available for download?

Well, the ones that don't agree with my music. Oh, and the ones that did NOT give me yet another drinks voucher at the QPR game :icon_bigg

I've been meaning to have a look at Mint, how would you say it compares?

To what? Windows or other flavours of Linux?

Although I've tried Ubuntu (and several others) I find that Mint just 'works' with my system and has all the drivers needed for my hardware and peripherals. Linux is certainly great as a free Windows replacement although I still use Windows more often due to certain programs being Windows specific. The only other bug-bear I have with Linux is that the look and feel, mainly the fonts, isn't seemingly as crisp. The fonts don't seem to render in a way that is pleasing to my eye!

Other than that I'd probably be more than happy to switch to Linux permanently.

I think Microsoft realise that there are many others feeling the same way hence the 'free' upgrade to Windows 10.

Stick with what you have if it does everything you want from it.

I believe you get a year to do the 'free' upgrade to Win 10 so definitely worth waiting a bit into that when the first patches have been released to iron out the initial bugs if you really do have to upgrade.
