Looking through the squads other people posted made me realise how difficult it is to keep it down to 23!

I put Micah Richards and Lescott in because of versatility... both could play at full back or centre back... but really, either of them could be left for any of the 3 at the bottom I mentioned... or Wes Brown actually... think it's a battle between those 6 (maybe not so much Richards, but if he has a good season he'll be there) for the 3 backup defensive positions.


I would love Hargreaves to be there, as he's much better option for that defensive position than Carrick, and possibly even Barry. Can't think of anyone other than those 3 who could do that job at all. Doubt Hargreaves will make it though.

Not sure if Lennon, Beckham and Walcott will all go... very tough call. Lennon or Walcott could be moved to the left though, or Walcott even up front, and Beckham could play centre mid... so we'd still have options with all 3 of them
Ashley Young, James Milner, Stewart Downing and probably others could also manage to dislodge someone with a decent season.


Upfront, they're the 5 for me... would like to see Owen there, but he would only be used as an impact player, and with his fitness such an issue I can't see him going. We've already got Beckham who will probably mainly just be used as a sub... in a small squad we don't want 2 players who won't play 90 minutes.

Carlton Cole and Darren Bent could take Gabby's place... but I'd personally prefer Gabby.

You've got to have cover for everyone, so I've gone with eight defenders and eight midfielders and four strikers. Room for some youth in the second stringers, the experience should do them good, and they're no worse than other second stringers available. No room in the squad for sentiment aka Beckham.
