I heard that that some of the more comical ones who do the audtions were actually put up to it and have not even entered the Competition.Basically they just get the Oddballs to make fools of themselves

They all go through an audition process in front of production staff before going in front of the “judges”. The average ones are chucked out at the first hurdle with the good ones and the really crap ones being allowed through to the main “judges”. So some vetting does go on.
