Trains

MML provide at least two trains an hour from Leicester to London St Pancras. At the moment no cheap advance tickets are being offered for the return journey - this may be because of planned engineering work and they may be offered when the scope and timetable of the work has been finalised. Edit on 18th Oct: Cheap tickets now released - some a £8, £10 and £12 (all singles) for appropriately timed trains.

Otherwise the cheapest return fare is £40.00 for a Saver. Groups of 3 or 4 people travelling together can take advantage of the GroupSave scheme and buy 3 or 4 tickets for the same price as 2.

Onward travel from St Pancras is via the Hammersmith & City Line to Shepherds Bush which is a short walk from the ground. Shepherds Bush is in Zone 2 - a zone 1-2 single ticket now costs £3, so it will be cheaper for you to buy a Z1-2 travelcard at £4.90 for your return journey - it will also save you from having to queue for a ticket after the game.

You can travel cheaper on the tube by buying an Oystercard. The fare with an Oyster would be £1.50 single - half-price!! - but with a £3 deposit (refundable) on the card, it might not be worth getting one for a single visit to London, but even occasional visitors can find them worthwhile.

NB The whole of the Central Line west of Marble Arch will be closed for engineering woeks on the day of the game. This means that White City and Shepherds Bush (Central Line) stations will be closed. Hammersmith and City Line services to Shepherds Bush (Met) are bound to be busier than usual, so please allow extra time for your journey.

Directions

You're going to need a good road map to get from the bottom of the M1 to the ground.

Follow the North Circular Road (A406) round to the Hanger Lane Gyratory System. Fortunately you don't have to gyrate too much to get on to the A40 towards Central London. At the point where the A40 becomes the A40(M), turn off onto the A40 towards White City/Shepherds Bush and turn right into Wood Lane, turn right into South Africa Road for the ground.

Before you park in the surrounding streets, check for signs; there are many restrictions and residents-only areas! Parking is available at the BBC Television Centre on Wood Lane but this seems to get more expensive year by year.

Pubs

The Springbok on South Africa Road was recommended by Ox Fox last season, although he suggested that you might not want to use the toilets there - any update, Ox?

London Branch go to a nice little pub some distance from the ground. I expect RS will be along soon to tell you its name and exact location, although I do remember that it's best reached from Stamford Brook underground station - or was it Ravenscourt Park?

Just checked on Streetmap, and remembered that the pub is in Aldensey Road (bottom of the 4th square on the middle row). Ravenscourt Park is the best station - still can't remember the name of the pub though.

Boc, for those driving might it be worth driving to Luton then getting the train from there?

I'd question whether that was worth it at all. You've still got to park in Luton and then make a similar train, then Undergound journey to get to the ground.

If I wanted to drive part of the way, I would probably drive round the M25 to Junction 16. There turn onto the M40 towards Central London, which soon becomes the A40. The Central Line runs very near the A40 and has stations with car-parks at Ruislip Gardens, South Ruislip, Greenford and Perivale, none of which will charge you more than a quid to park for as long as you like on a Saturday. From whichever station you choose, take the Central Line to White City which is a short walk from the ground.

Whyever would you want to go to a shit-hole like Luton when City are not playing there?

Edit: Central Line is closed west of Marble Arch on the day if the match

Still wouldn't want to park in Luton though. :icon_wink

It's the Andover Arms - a really good Fullers pub that does Thai food as well. Full address is 57 Aldensley Road, W6 0DL. I should imagine the London Branch and regulars from Leicester who are familiar with it will be congregating about 12.00 ish onwards.

Its easier and safer parking inn Watford and getting the train in. The ticket including underground is only a couple of quid

A couple of quid? I'm not sure where you get that from.

Parking at Watford Met station is only a quid on Saturdays, but a 10-Zone travelcard to get you to Shepherds Bush and back will cost you £7.40 each. You will also be faced with a journey of just over an hour with a change of trains at Baker Street.

It might be a bit quicker to park at Watford Junction and travel in to Euston on the main line, but not significantly so - it would however be much more expensive with parking being £6 on a Saturday and the fare to Shepherds Bush and back being £12 on an 'out-of-zone' travelcard.

Not been to Luton but I have been to QPR twice and surely Luton can't be any more of a shithole than that?

Plus we lost both times, 2-0 to Fulham and 3-2 to Q.P.R.

Considering going to this though.

As usual, we are to be accommodated in the School End Upper.

We were in the upper tier last season but the previous two times I went there we were in the crap lower tier (poor view, no legroom). One of those was for a match against Fulham - and I think this was one of those occasions when people buying their ticket early got the worst seats as the upper tier was also open.

Yeah I was in the upper tier for that match, On the very back row.
Loftus Road is the worst ground I have ever been too for leg room.

I have a bad leg at the moment so the Q.P.R. seating isn't that tempting at the moment. But hopefully it will be better soon. But yeah If my leg is ok I'll go with ya MHS

QPR have decided to always sell the top tier first these days. If we can sell all of these tickets and another 400 more, we can have about another 1,500 in the bottom tier. Ha!

I have read that seating upper tier very near front is similar to that of the double decker's old view from Filbo.

Not as high and even nearer the pitch.

If your more than a few rows back you can't see the goal line without standing up. And the stewards are very fussy about standing.

Mind, from the main stand you can't see the near touchline without standing!

a reasonably cheap day this one :) 11£ to get there and back and a student ticket, can't beat that! well if i can get a seat that i can see from it should be good

Its still only a couple of quid......

Parking used to be free on a saturday at Watford Junction, so that must have changed recently
