Cannot understand this appointment AT ALL

I mean dont get me wrong, the guy is a total legend as a player especially at Newcastle, but i really cant understand how theyll think that will impact on his managerial skills for Newcastle. I mean, youre a Premiership club with 8 games to save yourself so you go and hire someone with absolutely no managerial experience at all. He needs to learn from mistakes at a lower level first. Time and time again these sentimental managerial appointments fail.

Plus, what can Shearer gain from this? I mean how could he possibly raise his reputation up there? All he can do is destroy it a la McClintock.

I agree totally, this is the perfect time and situation for Shearer to take over, he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Plus Ashley is desperate and this gives Shearer all the barginning chips. If Shearer does well then he will have Ashley eating out of hands, the last thing the owner will want to do is force another legend out of the club, like he did with Keegan. So I fully expect Shearer to keep Newcastle up and then demand a huge transfer kitty in the summer and have Ashley dancing to his toon :icon_lol:

Master stroke by Mike Ashley, galvanises the club in their hour of need, personally I reckon Shearer will keep them up and if he doesn't then Ashley will have at least been seen to have done something positive.
