Obviously I have not reading threads carefully enough. Was the Cox 'bid' entirely ficticious to fool us into thinking Milan was going to splash some cash, or is there still some money available if Pearson and Walsh can identify a good value, available player?

Presumably as both Milan and Hoos were on record as having bid, it was a significant one of say £1million + but obviously not the £2million the Baggies eventually offered.

From the time I have followed football - which is an exceedingly long time - it has been a well worked ploy to make 'bids' with the main purpose of keeping the troops (fans) happy. As you hint, I dare say we would have been content to pick up Cox at a seriously below market price but this wasn't likely to occur with the Baggies & Celtic interested.

I guess that MM has still got money to spend but I don't think that he will splash millions around. I do think that we are a decent striker light but they are expensive and difficult to acquire through loans. I wouldn't be surprised if they had to resort to bringing in another old stager - and just wonder if this problem caused the recent alleged rift between NP and MM.

The chances are though that any striker considering a move before 31 August would have made that intention 'public' via agents etc.
Any striker not considering a move would now only leave for a big pay rise or a share of a big transfer fee?

Anyone care to work out what our net transfer spend since MM came is?

At a rough guess I reckon it's around -£2m. That is, we've made a substantial profit in transfers since he took over despite his many claims about what a glorious benefactor he is.

That is of course, in addition to the circa £30m net he's pissed up the wall on wages and general incompetance.

Still, nice to see that the old fella is still live and kicking for another season.

Put another way, MM hasn't spent his modest fortune (the "circa £30 you claim) very wisely which is a great shame for both him and us because his tenure could have been a time of great progress with that sort of money -got us into the premiership and even if like as not we had come straight down there would have been considerable financial benefit.

Now - he's spent a lot and doesn't want or can't dish it out anymore.

so delph goes to villa- which means king stays put ???

Spot on except for the point about him spending his money. Mostly, it's actually club debt. If you include the stadium, the club must owe something like £50m by now.

In that context, reducing the wage bill and minimising transfer spends is essential.

I guess so. I wouldn't know how much MM has spent of his own money, but I guess some. However, there is bound to be on going long tem 'fall out' from the money that has been wasted on players and managers and other senior staffs' compensations etc, loss of Sky revenue through relegation.

As you say, its time for tightening the belt and Mr Pearson having to make do and mend.

This is not going to be something that is going to be featured in the the Mercury!

What profit have we made in transfers since he's been here? I would hardly class it as substantial. Yet more baseless crap from you.

McAuley, Stearman and Hume all went for decent fees. But we spent a similar amount on Campbell, Clemence and Howard.

Basically balancing the books. Not a bad thing of course, but not quite what many of us hoped for when the saviour arrived.

The books haven't been balanced, nowhere near. We've spent more on players than just those three I mentioned, but haven't received much more in incoming fees.

Also we've paid high wages to players who have hardly played, we'll have paid off players (and managers) who have left before the end of their contract, and we've spent lots in agents and signing on fees.

The problem is most of the money has been wasted.

I'd like to see a listing of 'ins and outs' since meelan arrived.

A lot of them don't have the fees, or the wrong fees (for example it says Hobbs was free), but I think it's obvious from the lists that we spent more than we received.

You could make a Leicester City worst 11 out of that lot:icon_bigg
