Ranieri out

I'm starting to think if the last success was mainly down to others (Walsh & NP) rather than Ranieri himself.
It's such a simplistic view to think that our success was down to one or the other. NP laid a great foundation, Walsh's signings were mostly out of this world and Ranieri took care of the team competently. Similarly, this season's mess is not just down to Ranieri picking the wrong formation nor is it only one or two players who are underachieving. Even if a change of manager were the only way out for us - and I am still doubtful about that - it wouldn't expose Ranieri as a fraud.

But then I suspect you have already made your mind up about this.

It's all on the owners, if we can stomach relegation financially then they are fine to decide to stick with Ranieri. If we really need to make the best possible effort to stay in this league, he's gotta be replaced before it's too late. I don't know who is available that could do a better job, I'd hope for Mancini, but let's face it - it doesn't get much worse than losing and being shit all the time.

David Wagner.

Sadly, I have to agree with the call for Claudio Ranieri to step aside. Whilst every City fan should be eternally grateful for what he has done for our club, he just doesn't seem to have any idea as to how to deal with this situation and Premier League status is too hard earned to give it up lightly.

As to who should be approached as a replacement, I would suggest Gary Rowett. I am not convinced that Mancini, or any of the glamour gang would want to take the job and, if they did, we have to accept that relegation is a real possibility: these managers know nothing of the Championship. Rowett would tighten up our defensive play and give us a fighting chance of staying up, whilst being capable of building for a return in the worst case.

It would be bizarre to sack him as soon as the window has closed.

I want to see him and his players earn their money now.

Talk of sacking the manager who took us to our greatest ever achievement - beyond our wildest dreams - is absolutely ludicrous still. Especially less than a year after he performed such a miracle!

I've seen people saying we need a miracle of Pearson's Great Escape proportions. No we don't. Nowhere near. We were in a much, much worse position then.

It's bleak at the minute and we've been shit and yes I'm worried.

But we only have to pick up the same number of points as at least 3 of the 4 clubs below us to stay up.

We need to get moving, but we're not exactly down and out yet.

****ing drama queens the lot of ya.

Sacking him is mental

But the next three games are Manyooo at home, Swansea away and Liverpool at home

After which it is quite reasonable to assume that we will be stuck firmly in the bottom three - not to mention the away match in Seville where it is more than likely that they will rip off our heads and take it in turns to shit down the hole

This is the players' fault, fair and square, but we are stuck with them for the rest of the season and beyond in many cases. If the above comes to pass, then the owners will have little choice but to deal with the one thing that can be changed, and that's Ranieri

I understand what you are saying, but this suggests people should only voice these feelings once we are down and out.

People are rightly concerned, form suggests it's only a matter of time (4 days) until we are in the relegation zone.

Palace have brought in four new players, and have now started to win

Swansea have brought in five new players, and have won three Premier League games since we last scored a Premier League goal

If we sacked him who exactly do we expect would come in and persuade the players to try and earn some of their money? Jesus? Paul McKenna?

H from Steps is just sitting around doing nothing

It's a no brainer

This, this is facts.

Both Palace and Swansea replaced their managers first.

Fact is the players are not playing for the manager - that's becoming very clear; waiting to see who's to blame could be very risky.

Make a change. The players are great, but they've lost the faith - we can debate the power they have etc etc but in truth we will most likely be a championship club then!

Was it only 4? Cripes, seemed to me like they were buying anyone going! I must look at the final transfers list.

Edit: it was Hull that brought in loads, 8. CP and Swansea both 4.

Some players aren't trying. When Musa, Shinji, Chilwell and Mendy are given a chance they try. There are players willing to try for the club, those who aren't trying are showing no respect to the club nevernind Claudio. They can get ****ed in my opinion and I can't see a change in manager solving the problem.

Let Vardy join Loose Women on loan until the summer, send Fuchs off to the states and let Drinkwater sulk at home. We're not down yet but we will be if we allow apathy to continue to be accepted.

It's not the Faith that they've lost.

We’re not going to sack Ranieri. It would be wrong and it doesn’t make any sense. So Ranieri has to turn this around. We are heading straight for the iceberg and if we don’t change something, we will go down.

The same nucleus of players were there two years ago when, we were told, they maintained a positive spirit and attitude despite long periods of poor results. Eventually, we got to the point of no return and they collectively found the extra impetus required to get us out of trouble.

The same manager and nucleus of players were extraordinary last season. If we choose to, we can field a team of title winners whenever we want to get us out of this mess. So, the ingredients are there. It just needs sorting out.

Recently, Ranieri’s reaction, quite understandably, was to change systems to adapt to the opposition (Chelsea / Southampton). The players not only failed to perform, several of them clearly downed tools on the pitch. So Ranieri held his hands up and said sorry. They had a team meeting and agreed to go back to basics in terms of formation and personnel (Derby / Burnley). This was not quite as bad but only because the players actually seemed to support this way of playing. We still performed miles short of the capability that was on the pitch. Our predicament is much less about formations/personnel as it is about character/attitude.

I’ve read a number of books about the players and their achievements. They are a strong bunch who are quite obviously extraordinary. When their confidence is low, and they don’t really have to deliver, they are often garbage. When it gets really, really serious, they can be remarkable.
I would much rather we turn things around soon than last minute or not at all. Something is rotten right now and it needs addressing. The players may even believe that their current situation isn’t serious at all because they’ve overcome far greater challenges.

I reckon it is for time for Ranieri to call the owners in. Ranieri’s authority has to have been undermined by recent events so someone else is needed to lead the conversation.
It feels like it needs the owners to stand in front of the players and point out what they have done for them and what they will continue to do. To point out that they believe fully in these players and the management team and that Ranieri has their unqualified support. To point out that these performances are unacceptable and must improve now. They must offer to do anything within their power to help, support and encourage them, including whatever financial incentives that stir millionaire players. They must encourage a frank and open exchange of views to ensure that anyone that isn’t happy either gets it off their chest and moves on or moves out of the first team squad.

This team may well be extraordinary but they are in danger of seriously undermining the single most exceptional achievement of their professional lives. That bond between them and between them and us is already badly damaged. I think that it is only the owners now that can pull this mess back together.

An excellent post up until the point where you suggest we try and dig ourselves out of this by offering these players extra financial incentive. I would rather they all **** off and we play the kids if this is the only way to get them interested.
